I have the best perks. I get out of bed when I feel like it. I get to watch day-time TV. My money comes into the bank account every month. I have not needed to send a tax return for years.
Of course, at my age, I have been retired for seventeen years.

Don't get me started on fire men or bin men. Any job where there is a waiting list to join up is over paid. No questions. Any job where you can have another job simultaneously, ditto. I have ex firemen mates who have retired aged 45. No other job on the planet enbles you to do this.

Back to the OP, Working for a Leisure Trust that runs all the Council owned Leisure facilities I've got to "partake of the customer experience" so get to use our leisure facilities when I want to. Use the gyms and swim regularly, I can even get a round of golf at our courses, if there's no snow !

If he retired at 45 then it was because he went on an ill health pension. That avenue is very much closed these days as they changed it so you now have to go and work as a desk jockey or spend the rest of your days putting up smoke alarms for vulnerable households.

As for overpaid , I hardly think so , how much would you like to be paid to drag someone out of a burning building , or to find them not so lucky and looking like a big joint on a bar-b-q. How much would you want to be paid to stand around for 4 hours next to a car full of a dead family (parents and kids) while the police do their investigation. You then get to spend the next 2 hours trying to cut the car away from their poor litle bodies. Thats ok though cos at least I can stand there and think of that massive salary i'm getting.....idiot :D
