Peoples favourite 'top quality' ball?

I'm sure they will appreciate the views of Mr Mickelson to a few scratch golfers who have been given a sample.

5 piece, TaylorMade beat them to it !!

I know taylormade beat them to it but this ball seriously does top everything else on paper, the test that they use to deem if a ball is legal is they fire it at out of a gun at a titanium wall and they measure how fast it comes off the wall, from what I've been told it would be hard to better it as it is very close to the limit that the r&a and usga allow, this is because it doesn't actually have a layer of paint on it which makes the dimples better

Wilson FG Tour for me. In my opnion the only premium ball that is available at any semblance of a reasonable price and the best feel off a putter face of any ball that I have tried.

now just bought 3 dozen Bridgestone B330RX and B330-s mostly on the high recommendations they get from plus handicaps up to around 14. Looking forward to the h/cap coming down next season....new balls please

are they the premium balls bridegstone make?how do they compare to the pro v's and how much?i could be tempted, where money is concerned i'm always up for it :)

If I had the money for them then the penta tp would my choice. At the moment my premium choice would be zstar or 330rx. Have tried the pro v1's each year and still don't like them at all. I never play them, even the pickups I give away to friends.

E6's are currently in the bag, and burner tour as backup. Waldo have some zstar in yellow for when the ground is a little whiter.

surely the top of the range callaway balls are soft enough and similar to pro v's etc?

i personally use the pro v1 x and love them.earlier in the year i tried srizons and penta's but always found myself going back to the titleist balls.

try them and see how you get on,i find them to be great for the short game and for putting.and this is where most shots are lost so it's worth a try.

Nope. The tour i's are just as hard as a molitor. Cally make rocks. End of.

And I can pretty much guarantee their tour players play prototypes, that you and I will never see, that are way softer.

I agree that the top end Cally like the (i) and the (s) are firmer than a Pro V or Z Star but it doesn't make them rocks. They deliver a fine amount of spin and control but just feel firmer off the face. I don't mind that, particularly at this time of year. Personally I use the Bridgestone B330 RXS, Pro V or the Z Star. The one ball I dislike is the Penta. I find it the opposite of the Cally and way too soft especially with a wedge and putter and it is at least five yards shorter than other premium balls for me

Pro V for me, just gone to the x version.

I found the Callaway balls are fine for hitting any shots with but when it came to chipping and putting they just felt and sounded really "clicky" off the club face which was just horrible for me.

Bridgestone B330-s is, by a decent way, my preferred ball.

The FG Tours are pretty good (exceptional £ for £) as are the Cally i versions

Z star for me, find they don't cut up as easily as pro Vs, going to get some bridgestones soon and give them a try as I've only heard good things

Ive been loading up on PRO V1's for next year, picked up a dozen with comp wins, got a dozen from a client and then 2 dozen logo'd brand new ones for £27.50 at the London Golf Show.

As for betweeen now and then I got 3 boxes of Bridgestone B330 RXS for £58 from AG. Played one today and really liked it (great spin of a tree trunk!!!!).

If you keep your eye out for deals then pretty much every premium ball can be got for £2 a ball and under - except Titleist.

In threads like this it always amazes me how many mid to high handicap golfers use premium golf balls.

Why??

Because the FG Tours I bought were cheaper than the DX3 that I normally use so thought I would give them a go. Tried Pro V1x through the Titleist ball fitting promotion, won some Nike One balls through GM and have found the odd Z-Star and Pro V.

At under £20 a dozen I felt the FG Tour were a good buy and worth a punt and definitely worth it for the way I was putting with them. Will never ay full whack for a premium ball and am quite happy with with DX2/DX3 or Srixon Trispeed and would buy them out of choice unless I see a bargain.

Prov1 or Prov1x if its windy.

Luckily never had to buy any and both courses i'm a member at has enough visitors losing them all over the place to keep me going. We even have one spot on the course called Prov1x corner :)

Like dodger i can't understand why high handicappers would use a premium ball, your choice at the end of the day.

If any 28 handicappers want to buy some Penta's drop me a line i've got loads of the things and i just don't rate them. not a patch on the old TP Red and Blacks.

found pro v's or bought FG tours. Bought sleeves of callaway i(x), bridgestone 330 -s and TM Penta. Callies clicky with chipping and putting - partners even said it sounded like a rock, fine for the rest of the time. Pentas feel ok but seem shorter with my game. Bridgestone - v.good but perhaps a bit spinny in the wind. In short I'm still using FG tours or stocking up on found pro v's for comps.

Apart from the Callys which are a little firmer - it doesn't matter.
They're all the same, they feel the same, they react the same.
In the hands of a highly skilled player you will notice a difference.
In the hands of all but the lowest of handicaps I doubt any difference will be felt.

In a blind test I bet 95% of golfers wouldn't be able to tell between a ProV1, a Z-Star and a Penta.
