Peoples favourite 'top quality' ball?

Unless I have missed it, its very interesting to note not one vote for

NIKE!

In threads like this it always amazes me how many mid to high handicap golfers use premium golf balls.

Why??

i only use premium balls in competitions, don't see the harm in given myself a bit of help,
i find premium balls are better in both distance and control than the 2 piece bricks i practice with.

managed to go round the competiton on saturday without losing or damaging my penta :p

are they the premium balls bridegstone make?how do they compare to the pro v's and how much?i could be tempted, where money is concerned i'm always up for it :)

just got them Wull and the weathers so bad not been out with them, feels good off the putter so far. You must of missed the thread where AG (who sell them for £36 per dozen) has a deal for 3 dozen for £58 so just over £19 a dozen.

NIKE!
I played the Nike One Black for about a year and thought it was a great ball, but then my supply ran out and I just couldn't afford them anymore. Since then I've played the PD balls during winter time and had no issues with them either.

For me the Nike's are very similar to many of the other balls (not heard a lot about the new 20XI though), its just a question of what is available at the time of purchase lately and the bridgestone keep getting great deals ;)

So generally speaking, there are only two physical 'tools' to craft a golf shot. The club and the ball. We spend significant time choosing the right clubs and getting them custom fitted to ensure that they are the correct fit for our swing speed and select shafts based upon spin rates etc, etc.

How many people have gone for a ball fitting? I would suggest taking the guess work out of it and getting a ball fitting with your pro using flights scope or similar. Use this as a starting / reference point and then try a few similar make up balls from different manufacturers stables. Choose one and stick to it for 3 months...... After all you wouldn't change your clubs every other week and expect to get a feel for them? It is only that balls are a cheaper consumable item that people are able to tinker with them from week to week. Imagine you had to shell out for £600 worth of balls in one go and use only those for a couple of years (like you do for irons)' then you would get a ball fitting!

So the answer is: "whatever ball I use is probably not relevant to what ball you may need to use!....."

Yeah I went to the Bridgestone Fitting night at our club the ''Expert Fitter'' recommended the B330 s and sent me away happy with a free sleeve of Balls :)

...it is called marketing and also it is psychological. people think that if they pay more for a product it must be 'better'. I too used to buy ProV1's because they were he most expensive in the pro shop and therefore must be the best for me? Right? After all, I am not going to penny pinch on a few balls at the risk of adding shots to my scorecard. -wrong. until you are competent enough to hit the right swing speed and shape your shots at will, it is most probably money down the drain. Compression and spin rate. They need to match your swing speed and competency levels....otherwise that soft high spin rate ball will turn what you think is a draw into something more resembling a hook!!

I am clearly not alone in finding the Cally balls clicky when chipping and putting then.

When ever I have used one, after two or three holes my playing partners have queried what I am playing with as even they can hear the difference. Twice now I have had a brand new ball snatched from the hole, and thrown in the woods to get rid of it. (I must find some better class people to play with).

I keep trying to see why any one would like them. I have one in my bag (Tour i), right now, that I tried on Saturday. Just can't chip or putt with it.

Nike tour accuracy were amazing balls. If you could afford to put a new one down on every hole. They shredded up after just one shot.

bridgestone and callaway for me. i have used the odd pro v1 but didnt notice any difference. imo they are overhyped and overpriced. havent used a tm, wilson or z-star. interesting i found no mention or nike balls in this thread. are they sold at all?

interesting in the reference to ball fitting, i find the biggest issue with ball fitting its you dont get fitted at say an AG type store where they then give you options, its by TM, or by Srixon, etc etc where the spec you for one specific ball by one manufacture.

Id like to do a multibrand fittng where at the end your was told from srixon use this, from tm use this, from titleist use this.. and so on.

Can't really tell much difference between the ProV, Z-Star and FG Tour.

The "shop bought" Penta's I didn't like, but the ones that Paul McGinley (let me pick that name up ;)) gave to me, Stevek and Alan were custom made ones that he uses and were alot less spinny off the tee than the standard ones, shame I lost them all!

Will be trying out Bridgestone's in the NY.

So have you got the best ball for your game or the best Bridgestone ball for your game ? surely if you were getting fitted for anything be it ball , club or shoes an independant would be a better shout ?

Pro v1x's for me. However I have used the Callaway Tour i(s) and (z) and thought they were both excellent golf balls - not quite as good as the Pro v1, but a more than acceptable alternative, and better than the Srixon Z-Star.

NIKE!

I was hoping someone else would have posted Nike as I've just ordered some.

I 'won' 4 dozen Nike One Tour D on Ebay for £60 posted. From what I've read they're supposed to be like the ProV1x / Z-Star XV / B330

I'm hoping I'll like them!
