Peoples favourite 'top quality' ball?

Havn't tried many top notch balls as I mainly play mid priced balls. Out of the ones I have played I do love the Pro V1. Didn't like the Z star and havn't played the Penta or FG Tour yet.

ProV1 or bridgestone b330rx.

Srixon zstar are fine but cut up.

Anything cally is a rock, and should be avoided like molitors (same company, same ball).

Tm penta is ok, but I wouldn't buy one.

I got a very good deal on the bridgestones, and don't remember the last time I bought a proV. Got a dozen new ones in the cupboard ready to go come spring.

Z Star XV for me, unlike Murph I think they cut up less than the other premium balls, happily use the Pro V1x but will buy either the Z Star or Bridgestone as better value imo

Pro V1 for me too, athough i like the Wilson Staff FG tours and you can pick them up for £20 a dozen if you shop around. Only problem with the Wilsons is that they tend to go that yellow colour if your lucky to not to lose them for a round.

surely the top of the range callaway balls are soft enough and similar to pro v's etc?

i personally use the pro v1 x and love them.earlier in the year i tried srizons and penta's but always found myself going back to the titleist balls.

try them and see how you get on,i find them to be great for the short game and for putting.and this is where most shots are lost so it's worth a try.

Think I will get a few pentas as I play pro vs but wanted to get others opinions instead of blindly paying over the odds for balls !

I have given up on "Top Quality" balls, as I have now realised that as I slice with my driver it becomes a tad expensive:D

Simple answer is to fix the slice!!!

i know the feeling,i was losing so many balls earlier in the season and it was costing me a fortune but thankfully i've improved my game and i don't lose as many balls....i've probably just jinxed it now lol!

Nope. The tour i's are just as hard as a molitor. Cally make rocks. End of.

And I can pretty much guarantee their tour players play prototypes, that you and I will never see, that are way softer.

Z stars for me. Don't find they cut up, although I don't thin many shots, more fat them ! They also remain white unlike Pro V's which seem to go grey.

taylormade penta at the moment for me, prefer them to pro v's,
though i haven't properley tried any other premium balls

The new one that is coming out in January is going to blow the pro v1 out the water

Its 5 piece, spoke to a few scratch goflers who had been given a sample ball and they said it was much better than the pro v1, although like every other piece of equipment in golf it's all a matter of preference

I'm sure they will appreciate the views of Mr Mickelson to a few scratch golfers who have been given a sample.

5 piece, TaylorMade beat them to it !!

End of nothing Mr Mog!

The Tour i(s) is a very decent ball and I don't know what type of Molitors you've been playing with if they are as soft as the i(s).

I like the i(s) as well as the Z-STAR and the Bridgestone B330RX.

Scott1505 has been playing the new Callaway ball for a while now. Maybe he'll be along soon to tell us how it compares.

fortunately most people play Prov1's at my course so havent bought any for years, i put 1 in the rough and come out with 3.....usually (shows you how much I've been in the rough last year ha ha)
now just bought 3 dozen Bridgestone B330RX and B330-s mostly on the high recommendations they get from plus handicaps up to around 14. Looking forward to the h/cap coming down next season....new balls please

In summer I generally play with ProV1s but at my standard I am happy with any premium ball. Z-Star or Callaway Tours are just as good as far as I'm concerned.

Murph, I know you really don't like Callaway balls but this is what GM's Paul O'Hagan said about the Callaway Tour i(s)

"Callaway have again created the softest feeling ball on offer in the form of the Tour i(s)."

JezzE said of the Callaway Tour i

"The Tour i is probably the softest ball I have used since the days of the balata."

I've played with the Tour i and liked it. Similar to Pro V1 in my view. I also really like the look of the hexagonal dimples.

I have generally found Callaways to be good balls from the old Rule 35 through the CBs to the Tour 56 and Tour i.

As for them being TopFlites or Molitors, aren't Titleists made by Pinnacle?:p:D
