PCC algorithm changin

I've slowed somewhat, only at 116 WHS scores now (I assume you have to be putting in quite a few GP scores as well, that's an incredible number already?)

Of those extra 8 scores, one adjustment of +3, and it was the only open. Now I suspect something has changed, because this was a small field inter-club singles stableford, only 44 scores but 4 of those playing to handicap or better. That's not enough to trigger changes earlier in WHS history, especially a full 3 shots, so soemthing has gone on.

No, I have never submitted a GP score.

Thought I would resurrect this thread as I just noticed a PCC of 1 on 5 of my last 20, dating from 21st August - no open comps were involved.

P.S I have 530 scores in my WHS record, 236 played since the start of WHS.
If you do not submit any general play scored, your club must put on at least 3 qualifiers per week, and you play in pretty much all of them (assuming you will also miss some due to holidays, weather, and some might be non-qualifying like 3 club or mulligan or team events, match play).

One guy at my club has submitted 146 scores since April this year. That is 146 scores in 189 days. He has played a lot more than this though, because he plays team events, mixed doubles, etc. I can imagine the number of scores he has built up in a few years would be ridiculous. However, he didn't hand in general play scores pre WHS, and there was maybe only one qualifying comp every 2 or 3 weeks on average to play in for him (he played loads, just no scores submitted). We also couldn't submit any scores all winter last year, I heard it will be the same this year.

My club has 3 qualifiers a week throughout the year (although the Seniors have the occasional scramble) and an additional one in the months of April to September. I'm always there.

I also play in matches and Away Days.

The point of my post was to highlight the incidences of PCC.

I wasn't challenging you. Simply impressed by people such as yourself and the guy i know play so much golf. Also impressed your club have so many qualifying comps.

I thought I would bring this up again.

I have just compared my current "last 20" with my 20 scores from the same period in time from 2021.

2021 - 3 PCCs, 2 @ +1, 1 @ +2.

2022 - 8 PCCs, 5 @ +1, 3 @ +2.

Is it possible that the change has gone too far?

Sample size is too small, so not ikely. I've just looked at my 80 scores entered in the last 12 months and have had one adjustment, in mid-October, 2021.

I wasn't suggesting my figures were statistically significant but opening the question up for any input from others.

Only two changes in my last 20, the same two in my last 58.

Even if yours is 8 from 20, no reason to think it's gone too far at all, it needed to go a long way from where it was

Unfathomable to me.
I would need to see the PCC calculation (or formula, or algorithm, or whatever) - before and after.
I prefer facts to speculation.
Good luck getting either of those! Likely simpler to just monitor future sets of results where a PCC would be expected.

And good luck with drawing any meaningful conclusions with that method.
I wouldn't disagree with that either! But a 'wet finger in the air' approach, checking a couple of days where you would expect a PCC adjustment would likely work at least as well as trying to dig into the actual formula! Or you could simply trust that it has been done!

First comp of the year yesterday, terrible conditions and the PCC came out as 3!
Since its introduction I've only seen 1 competition before now actually have a pcc score. Is the new algorithm working? I guess time will tell

Three of the four competitions I’ve played this month have had a PCC of 1 - course has played long as it’s soft underfoot and been quite cold for April.

Its definitely changed, almost certainly for the better. This season so far we have had 10 comps. All of them have had a positive PCC adjustment.
The whole of the 2022 summer season saw only 9 adjustments from 177 comps.
