I am gonna cut my losses with my laptop and get a desk top. Only use it for internet and the odd bit of Microsoft office. And maybe football manager.
Out of the following. And only the following please. Which is better for my needs? Or is there much difference?

i5 3330 processor 4gb ram 500gb hard drive
Or
i3 2130 processor 8gb ram 2tb hard drive
Or
AMD A6 2.7ghz quad core processor 8gb ram 1tb hard drive.

Cheers guys.

Forget AMD , it's between the 2 intel CPUs
The i5 has 4 cores(brains )the i3 has 2, but there is hardly any software that will use more than 2 brains at any one time
Each brain on the i3 is faster than the i5 and with the extra ram if will fly, it should also be cheaper than the i5

I've never really been impressed with the i5

But if you want the bestest look for an I 7 rig with 8 gb ram

What graphics card are you looking at?

Check the footy manager graphics requirements, you should be ok
You will never use 16gb ram, at least not in this machines lifetime 8 is plenty

Benchmark scores:

Intel Core i5-3330 @ 3.00GHz 5876
Intel Core i3-2130 @ 3.40GHz 4032
AMD A6-4400M 1654

Don't get caught up in the RAM, processor is far more important, and ram is cheap to upgrade at anytime. (I'd take the i5 unless huge hard disk space is a priority)

For what you'r needs are, I would guess that any minimum spec'd modern machine would be overkill.

2 TB storage??? Just how many word documents would you need to fill that up ??

I've got about 3,500 music tracks and 2,500 photos sitting on my laptop that barely take up 25 GB.

The world's gone mad I tell you. Mad ........

HD Video footage takes up a lot of space. but 2TB is overkill for 90% of people, but there's nothing worse than running out of disk space and having to go through and delete stuff!

Bit of FM eh? I better get started on my Cambridgeshire Nation database then!

From what I know about FM RAM doesn't make much difference once you have enough, which is about 6-8GB in most windows 7 machines.

Also i5 vs i7 doesnt make a huge difference, like the jump from i3 to i5 does.

i5 3k series would go in ANY gaming machine I would buy ATM, laptop or desktop. I know very few gamers who would consider the i7s unless its for show :)

BTW check out this when you get FM http://www.fmscout.com/a-lincs-and-humber-db-13.html, I am making a Cambs one in the same fashion soon!

One way I look at it is if you are the kind of person who has lots running at once, even background stuff, then get one with more "brains".

I, for the first time, disagree with fragger on the i5 BUT only because I have had 1st had experience benchmarking FM12 last year. See http://community.sigames.com/showth...enchmark-Thread?highlight=benchmarking+thread I think the i5 would be far more suitable for FM due to things other than the clock speed when compared against a 2k series i3.
