Pavins pick

Here's an interesting stat about Harrington.
In 2008, his scoring average was 70.70
In 2010, his scoring average is 70.79
And he is no. 5 on the US tour for number of putts.
Ok, his medal play hasn't been his best but if you scramble well in matchplay, you can eat away at your opponents mind set.
I'm sure as good a player he is, he'll find a swing that finds the fairways and greens between now and the RC.
Lets hope so eh?

Monty explained at his clinic last week the main reason Harrington got the nod was that he and his VC's all sadi if you had one guy to putt from 5 feet to win it on Sunday who would it be and they all said Harrington.

Its about beating your opponent and not about the score and so with Harringtons short game scrambling and his fantastic ability to hole out under pressure I'm happy. I think he'll find a way to get it round. I don't think Fowler is that great a pick for the US. He's young and flash and I can see him rubbing the fans up the wrong way and getting a hard time. I thought Woods was a certainty and I'd have him in my team same as I'd pick Rooney tonight. Let them get on with what they are best at and leave anything else at the locker room door

If that's the case, why is his Ryder Cup record so poor?

I would rather face a US team without Woods than with him this time.

The massive difference this time compared to previous Ryder Cups is that Tiger Woods NEEDS the Ryder Cup this time rather than the Ryder Cup needing him.

The Ryder Cup is a huge opportunity for Tiger to mend some fences and improve his public image.

I think we'll see an all out charm offensive and a real team player this year. He desperately needs the positive PR that the Ryder Cup can generate for him.

I dont think he should pick Woods hes a liability, hes out of form and hes never been a team player, also the media circus for him could be disruptive to the team.

Agreed perhaps the media might be a bit worse but it would have been fairly severe anyway what with being the Ryder Cup...

As for his form now come on lets look at his his performances in his tourneys 2 top tens in majors and generally resonable results in other comps..the guy has played 8 times this year and is still number 1. By his standards poor year by the rest of the tours standards pretty damn good and would have earned anyone else of them a pick.. IMO Pavin made a good call with him.

Europe is still going to poosil them though

I might be putting myself out on a limb here but seen as there is so much contraversy over Harrington and woods being picked i have a sneaky feeling that alot of nay sayers and the media will have egg on there faces come the final day.......

Even though they are not playing very well there still pretty dangerous opponents to be drawn against.......

The Mental aspect alone of being drawn to play against them will be on most players minds i think.......

There's nothing worse i think than when your hitting greens and fairways and your opponent is spraying it everywhere and anywhere but still walking away with wins and halves......Very annoying i think :D
