Partner, whats that all about? Whats wrong with The Wife, The Misses, HID??

Partner! Thats a business thing not a loving relationship. Why do people use this silly term for their loved one.

Partner - long term girlfriend/boyfriend but is be becoming a more PC way of saying wife or husband in a same sex relationship

Simples...girlfriend/boyfriend sounds like a teenage thing!

Got to admit I never say partner it's alway the mrs, other half, the wife (we're not even married) or sometimes I even use her name!

New guy on my team at work asked me what my partner does, I said who! It's just not a term that registers with me for HID.

It's become the PC word in these overly PC times in case some over sensitive sole takes offence! Good friend of mine always calls his partner his fella as he says just because he's gay why does he have to say partner just to fit with what's now a socially over used term by saying partner. Does crack me up when they've had an argument and he says "she has wound him up being a diva"

Think people should just use the term they are happy with rather than towing the line and saying partner to be correct.

Is the term Wife or Husband reserved for people with a certificate?

Yes, actually it is.

wife (wf)
n. pl. wives (wvz)
A woman joined to another person in marriage; a female spouse.

hus·band (hzbnd)
n.
1. A man joined to a another person in marriage; a male spouse.

I suppose that 'partner' sounds a bit more mature than girlfriend or bird or bidie-in or whatever.

Girlfriend = relationship without the commitment/bond of marriage.
Partner = girlfriend over the age of 30.
Fiancé = promise of further commitment, sometimes used to get past 1st base in the old days.
Wife = the obvious.
Mistress = lady found between a Mister and a mattress :)
