Parking in your Town/ city

I was out seeing Kevin Bridges in the Hydro in Glasgow last night. I was really struggling to find a parking spot and had to park in a street about 2 miles away. They have a multi-storey there but it was rammed before the show. Glasgow is a joke for parking. You can't go anywhere without it costing you, and also max 2 hour stays on most places. Totally pointless. If they want folk to go see shows, provide ample parking and it'll be more successful.

Used to be great for parking around the SECC and armadilo. Park up on the other side of the walkway around the garages, McDonald's etc all for free and plenty of space.
Then they built the Hydro next to the SECC and armadilo as well as the multi storey for the Hydro and overnight double yellow lines appeared everywhere within a 2 mile radius. Funny that.

In manchester city centre and trafford if you dont pull away from the traffic lights quick enough a traffic warden swoops down from the sky with ticket ready written, slaps it on your screen and flys back to the roofline ready for the next slow motorist. And if you park on double yellow and the grab wagon is free say goodbye to your car.

They are absolutely ruthless around Manchester, and its worse because no matter where you park it costs a fortune and spaces are getting smaller or is it cars getting bigger.

I think with all the cuts, the local authorities will be looking at any possible revenues stream where they can scrape money from us.

When I used to work on Deansgate there was the "Bridge to nowhere" outside Granada Studios - double yellows on both side yet always rammed with cars (Princes Bridge?). Apparently it was on the border of Salford / Manchester and neither could agree whose traffic wardens should patrol it, so no wardens ever went there.

Don't know if it's still the case though.

I think Rooter is being a bit melodramatic, they are opening the bridge up for November and December, then closing it again for 9 months :D. There are 2 other bridges over the railway but they are both owned by the Racecourse who are unwilling to allow traffic to cross. I think Newbury is no different to any other towns that grew up in the 50's & 60's when cars were rare, even in the 70's when I was a kid it was very rare to see a house with more than 1 car now you see houses with 2 or 3 sometimes more so no wonder there are parking problems. Some roads that you used to get two cars down are now down to single line traffic.

I live near Brighton, driving is actively discouraged into the centre and parking is expensive. The wardens are ruthless. Residents parking is a nightmare, there are too many properties for the number of cars - and many park up their hippy wagon for 50 weeks of the year blocking space.

Your telling me. We parked there a few weeks back and it £18 for less than four hours in an NCP

Parking in Cambridge is easy but expensive (as it should be).

Park and Rides and other busses work well so are worth using.

I always have plenty of options and no issues.

What can be done to get more out their cars and onto busses?

Luckily we have the tram in Nottingham and there is line close to me. So if I ever go into town, which is very rare nowadays, I use that.

If I go into Manchester during the day, I go to the park and ride and get the Metrolink in, free parking and about £3 return for the tram.

I have been in the city in the evening twice in the last week, one was Saturday, parking is a lot better as all metered parking stops at 8pm (used to be 6). Both times I parked in the same place at 7.30 and it cost me £1 both nights

Traffic flow through our town is a nightmare - regularly made worse by idiotic parking. So main road through town centre has single yellow lines both sides. Means that after 6pm and weekends cars can park both sides of road opposite each other so that only one car can pass along the road - cue long queues both ways as traffic takes turns to squeeze between cars. Even if they staggered their parking that would have been better but no. And so council have painted double yellow lines all along one side of road. Sorts out the problem but what a complaining! And guess what - there are car parks both sides of the road not 3minutes walk from the main street.

I park by the harbour, or by the beach, without charge, every day of the week.
Roads are relatively quiet and many miles can be driven without traffic.
Speed limits of 65 mph are strictly enforced however.

The roads are empty and many miles can be driven on good roads, without jams and roadworks.

You live in Spain?
