my first dealings with this outfit,

I've had something sent from abroad, first customs got their stickies on it, then they give it to Parcelfarce who sent me the custom's bill + £8 (for what exactly?).

they give me options to pay before they'll deliver . . .
can't get through online
can't get through on the premium number they give you - except after they closed

I shall therefore waste a whole lot of time going to their depot on Saturday but first I need to confirm that the package is really there
- can't get through on the phone. (I think they take the phone off the hook as they go in and put it back as they leave.)

what you do is ignore any premium rate numbers they give you, instead phone either 0207 2502888 or 01908 687000 and ask to be put through to the depot you need.

The customs clearance place in Coventry is muppet central. That phone number is intended to be perpetually engaged. Once you hear it ring, you know they have left.

Twice, I received parcels from Japan, denominated in Yen, and the morons have misread it as US $ and charged several hundred pounds charges on something worth £25.

I complained and they told me I had to pay first and claim back later. I told them to shove it, send it back and I would have the sender resend via UPS, and they eventually agreed to sort it out. Only took 6 or 7 weeks in all.

not guilty...

The charges are generated by HMRC, so any problems corncerning such charges need to be refered back to HMRC.

The clearance charge is a set rate depending on service.

Do you remember when we were young and used to bobby knock on doors and run away. Well these days the perpetrator is probably Parcelforce. :D

Been told from a few posties that they carry cards and stick them through the door without knocking/ringing so you have to collect. They dont have the parcel with them.

I've experienced this a couple of times when I've been in when the card came through the door.
The first time the postie said it was in his van and he would bring it in an hour when he finished his round (he did)
The second time the postie said he'd left the parcel at the post office as he didn't think we'd be in. He then went to the post office and got it.

Royal Fail or Snail and Parcel Farce are the biggest bunch of incompetent fools I've ever had the unfortunate pleasure of dealing with.

I know, from inside information, how they operate. Atrocious!

Remember the undercover reporters on the telly a little while ago.

Says it all really.

They should be stripped of the 'Royal' status, now, and have to re-earn it.

Avoid if possible.

The VAT and duty may be determined by HMRC, but the administration of its collection is carried out by Parcelforce employees, who in contrast to the UPS and FedEx employees who do the same things for their employers, appear to be attention deficit disordered muppets who are unable to read properly. Or quickly.

viscount, i feel your fury. we used to import a brand for the usa at work, parcelforce used to pull up at our offices, give me the parcel with a bill for customs and clearence, ussue them and cheque and be on their way.

But now:

Once it lands in the uk it normally takes around 7-10 days to receive a letter advising that charges are due and needs to be paid

like you i then either have to wait on hold for around 30 mins to pay the chrages so they deliver it, or collect it myself and pay the charges in person, so they dont have to deliver it.

last time i was there i asked them " do i get a discount on the duties".... i was replied with why... bla bla bla, it ended in a heated arguement because my point was why am i payed £160 postage if the are not even delivering it. im pyaing them around £80 just to be a sotrage depo for a week. MONKEYS!!!!!!!!

now we just have everything fedex or ups... and the fedex driver is a cute little blonde thing... BONUS!

Quicker delivery,
No Messing
pay on the spot duties
Nice eye candy!
