Par 3 Nightmares

Thanks for the input everyone. Will definitely try going up a club and see how that goes, also the playing lesson is a good plan too. First post and already some helpful tips!

Within 150 I would expect to be hitting the green 6/7 times from the fairway so I consider that a stronger part of my game considering my handicap, I generally lose most of my shots with either the putter or the driver

That would be a strong part of your game if you were off 5 if you are actually hitting 60-70% of greens from 150yds but you say you expect to hit them, how many do you actually hit? Sorry if I'm being harsh but 22 h'cappers who can hit 70% of greens from 150yds shouldn't be having trouble hitting a par 3 from 133yds. Something doesn't add up.

Not harsh at all, I appreciate the time you are taking to help. You are right, it doesn't add up, that's what I'm trying to figure out, seems to be a mental block more than anything.

I think the figures might be skewed by the fact that my second shot is generally not within the 150 range so I'm not hitting 70% GIR by any means. A standard par 4/5 on my course for me will be a drive then a hybrid/long iron then a pitch/chip (if it goes well of course!) so a fair percentage of my shots within 150 are probably within 60/70 yards. Having said that, my 7 iron is pretty stable and I hit it well, with the exception of when I am standing on a tee

Welcome to the forum, agreed that is a good name :)

I doubt it really has anything to do with the fact that you are teeing it up but mentally there's obviously a barrier. Sometimes the alignment of a tee box can really throw you off. There's one at ours and it took me a while to cop it doesn't align exactly where I thought it did. I assumed it was parallel with the green, but as it was at an angle I found myself hitting all sorts of shots. My body was aligned to the target but my mind was seeing the parallel lines of the tee box and I was cutting across the ball to compensate. Now when I tee up there I step well away from the edge and nearly 2 clubs back from the tee markers so I can't see in my periphery the misaligned lines. If you get me. Also you can assume it is level but there may be a slope - stand back and see if you are actually standing with your feet above/below the ball, if it's below you might be slicing it and above drawing it naturally with the slope.

Just a thought, spend a second longer on your alignment next time, if you can hit greens off the fairway from this range somethings not right and it isnt likely to be a little harmless tee (but it might be the box)
