Paddy has got no chance of winning The Open !

I said this a few months back,he is doing a Sandy Lyle at the moment and the longer it goes on the harder it will be to get back....must be thick end of 10 months now cos he played like a total chopper at the Ryder Cup too and that was blamed on his 2 major wins taking it out of him.

OK, I'm the first to say it by the looks of things, but what on earth has happened to Harrington's game ?

He's been shite this year, he's still a bit better than me, but by his standards he's been shockingly bad so far.

5 cuts missed in a row now, http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/golf/8133783.stm

Well, I wouldn't bet my mortgage on him, but to say he has no chance is ridiculous. For a start, did you see World number 800-something almost win the US Open a couple of weeks ago?

Also, Paddy will be warming up at the Irish PGA at the European Club next week. Chance to do well against a weaker field and get some good links experience.

Don't write him off just yet.

Was only saying this today - He almost may as well not bother going. Something's not right with him and until he finds out what it is and puts it right he's got as much chance as I have!

So basicaly, since Padraig changed from Hi-Tec to Footjoy, he's gone downhill. :D

What a fascinating theory! Also since he stopped playing with the Wilson Staff pi5 irons his game has gone ti*s up.

Having backed him to miss the cut at the US Open I was some what bemused to see him as 2nd fav(16/1) for The Open.
Can't remember the last time the guy made the weekend so how do the guys at Paddypower come up with this.

I think he'll struggle in Ireland. Too much expectation to please the home crowd and not the place to be searching for a game. If I'd been in his shoes I'd have been playing links golf away from prying eyes but of course that's never going to happen with the Irish Open and his committment to Irish golf fans.

Im a paddy fan but this year he has been ashambles

Lads , As much as it kills me to say it i have to agree with the majority here.... Im a big harrington fan and not solely because im irish but because hes so grounded about things..... In truth he has been complete S@#£E the past 5 tournaments....id love nothing more than to tune in and see him in the top 10 but from what i gather he's been fiddling with his swing. Quiten me here but what the hell would you be doing trying to sort out a swing issue that in my amateur opinion there wasnt a thing wrong with.....the odd thing is i still wouldnt write him off just yet for the open because he seems to have this weird knack of being able to shut his critics up at the right times....hes probably only 1 of a handful of players that could miss that many cuts and then end up winning another big one...I wouldnt bet against him anyway.... one player i will be hoping does well is nick dougherty im a big fan of his also..

Too much tinkering ?

Losing that 'fear factor' over the other guys?

He's his own man, and seems to be putting a good front on it, but I'm with the majority, and can't see him making the leaderboard, even if he makes the weekend.

Also is he using the new clubs for the first time in anger this week ?

I was lauging at Lowry having to sprint to the 1st to make his tee time!!! :D Well done to him! :D
I think it was all down to him changing his swing but it was awfully planned. I think he started changing it in January and unlike most players, who can have a consistent new swing by two months, Harrington has taken 6 months and still counting. Of course, if they completely overhaul their swing in can take years to groove in but looking at Harrington's "new" swing I can't see that he has changed much.

I think thats a bold statement that Gustavo.

I agree he's been rubbish this year and you can't really see where his next win will come from But, when you have all that ability and experience i don't think you can write him off.

If the weather turns nasty a lot of people will be affected by it though i think paddy could handle it.

The beauty about the Open is that almost everybody has a good chance of winning it ie; Hamilton Curtis etc

I hope he at least makes the cut and is there or therabouts come sunday morning.

The thing about The Open is you cant write anyone of, his game will come back, i think its to much tinkering with new drivers ,last time isaw him he had a Callaway FT9 out and he was all over the place.
As the saying goes class is permanent ,form is temporary

Having backed him to miss the cut at the US Open I was some what bemused to see him as 2nd fav(16/1) for The Open.

Padraig - Paddypower - lots of local money on him?

seriously, as he is at the moment I don't see him making the cut (and I hope he proves me oh so wrong)

I think it is purely down to his new swing. How long before he reverts to the old one?

It is like turning up to the monthly medal, where your best mate says 'I've been having a few lessons'. You just know he isn't going to trouble the scorer.

Having spent so long changing a swing, how easy would it be to revert to the old one? Surely some of the new moves are sure to get mixed in with the old ones and then all hell is going to break loose!

I dont think the problem is with his swing, he has gone cold with the putter, he said that one of the last comps he entered, he just couldnt get comfortable with the greens, to me this is bad.
Gary Player used to share rooms with other golfers in the early days and each week he would say how much he loved the slow greens they were playing on, the next week he would be saying how much fun he was having on the fast greens.
I suppose the moral of the story is to enjoy putting, its a game and if you learn to have fun on the greens then it wont matter if they are fast or slow. I am going by this view and have to say my putting is going really wel lat the moment, 3 birdies yesterday all from 8-15 feet where I used to just try and get them close.

Its the Irish PGA he is playing in this week the biggest crowd that will be following him would be 50 people its like a 4 day pratice comp for him just before the open on the hardest links in ireland so we will see how he goes this week hopefull he will hurt his wrist or knee that would give him a good chance.
