Out and over the top

I have a habbit of coming over the top when I start my back swing. Initally my right elbow was flying about but I have been concentrating on keeping it tucked in. Now, however, I seem to be coming over the top - and from what I can feel when I turn my hips I slide to the left and this makes the over the top. I also feel that I am getting trapped when I come from the inside.

Any ideas on drills?

I do this when I rush at the top. Hip action usually doesn;t do it, shoulder action dies.

Feel like there is a slow wind up during the backswing, a momentary pause at the top, then start down with the hips leading and no snatching of the club.

If you feel like you are getting stuck you could be coming from the inside too much or playing the ball too far back in your stance causing pushes or push slices. Try playing the ball more forward in your stance and like Ethan said slow and steady backswing with a bit of width and a controlled swing through the ball with a good body turn.
