Opinions of Donald Trump's course in Scotland

Many courses do not have a world famous billionaire owner either. Not saying its right but

Still won't matter - there are some very powerful men have tried to get the Open away from their traditional rota - an American businessmen won't change their mind

I hope the The Open doesn't get anywhere near the place - it's false and dripping with Trump arrogance

Thankfully I don't expect the R & A to touch it.

I with you on this one but I think there will be a big event at this course soon. Trump has a very large brown envelope!!!!

I've never played the course myself, but I know a few guys who have and said its over rated and not a patch on castle Stuart, the rough is supposed to be horrendous, make sure you have plenty of balls if you play there ;)

I was out for a few drinks with a load of the SNH (Scottish Natural Herritage) when this was built and they were spitting feathers over the amount of damage done to the SSS.

Show how out of touch Trump is as he has tried to enlist their support against the wind turbines;)

Although it has to be said that @bluetoon, our correspondent on the ground and embedded in the dunes north of Aberdeen, would disagree with that analysis. "No damage environmental damage here" apparently - SNH talking anti-Trump rubbish.

Have no interest in ever playing it - trying to create a false top course and the guy is a complete and utter "insert swear word here"

Watched the program about it and think the way the locals were treated by him is a disgrace.

Hope it all falls flat on its face

In total agreement with Liverpoolphil on this, though I suspect it probably won't fall flat on its face.

I don't know enough about the environmental impact to comment on that, though I know there are opposing views on it. And I don't know whether or not there has been in increase in tourism, though I'd be sceptical about any great claims in that regard.

It's a vanity project of an unpleasant man, who is now (as I understand it) using the wind turbines issue to duck out of promises he made when proposing the project in the first place.

The place is blooming awesome. Played it and loved it. From what I saw they disturbed as little of the area as possible. They were stabilising dunes to ensure the Eco systems remained in place. If Richard Branson had decided to build this course we would have a much better view of it. People don't like Trump and that's fine. The course is there and won't be going anywhere. It will inevitably host a tournament because he has money to invest in an event. My parents in law love the place and go for lunch there every month or so. They don't even play golf. The addition if a marquee course in the area is great for golf tourism. I am sure that Cruden Bay. Murcar and Royal Aberdeen are benefiting from the additional green fees they are getting then the hotels, bars and restaurants get the knock on benefits. Go and play it. Form your own opinion on the GOLF COURSE and not the owner.

I would imagine SEPA and SNH would disagree about the Eco system;)

and as for Golf Tourism, its one less local course visiting yanks will play if there another course at Trumpo's

I'm local, played the course and walked the area, there is no environmental damage.
The place is a gem.

There has certainly been an impact on the area.

Whether that's considered 'damage' is debatable - and is what the debate is about - but there is no way that installing a Golf course is not going to have an impact.

Same applies to Doon's post about Woburn. The simple fact that there has been a (sizeable) change to the environment is reason enough to consider the effect. Of course, it's quite possible that the effect is actually an 'improvement' to the environment, but it is/would be daft to state that there is no impact.

Without aligning myself on the side of the 'do nothing environmentalists' the human race's minor dabbling has caused major environmental damage in countless cases!

Nature is a strange beast.
Everyone likes to see the stags on the highland hills.
Most of them are only there so the sporting estates can attract big spending guns.
Ban the guns and the deer would soon be gone.

At one of my old courses I was determined to attract partridges back.
They used to be common on the course in the 1940/50's but farming changes saw them all but disappear.
The adjacent land owner, who had regular shoots, started laying down game strips onto the edges of his large fields and I adjusted the way the rough was cut by introducing a third level cut. Within a few years the partridges returned and quickly re-established.

Very simple but if we told anybody what we intended to do I'm sure there would be many objections.

Lol
Nope, not a correspondant nor embeded into the dunes.
But i have both played the course and walked a dog around the area, My opinion is neither political nor based on press reports, just a keen golfer who has played many of the great links in this land in which to measure it against.

As a local, i consider myself blessed to have this wonderful golf course on my doorstep.

Well Captain Ron ....... the place is a SSSI BECAUSE the dunes move and his stabilising them is the problem!!!

However I feel sure that you are just as accurate with the rest of your reasoning.

you know what irks me,is that all the people who are critical of the project have never been there,I have been there before and after the project, let me tell you this there was nothing there before, no real wildlife as such, and as for the dunes well if you care to look further up the coast there is still loads there, the telly piece on trump was just very poor one sided journalism, the majority of people in the area wanted this just a few tree huggers and also anti trump types were against it.
As for the wind turbines well that's just a stupid place to put them, just a matter of time before there is a shipping collision as aberdeen harbour going north is a very busy route.
Give the place a try it's a superb layout, I've played loads of top tracks and this is right up there with them

I'd quite like to have a game round there, it looks like a fun day out...forum meet anyone? :D

Interesting website too (a lot of golf clubs would do well to match the info & presentation)

Of particular interest was the max elapsed pace times and time to play each hole for a 4-ball :

1st - 16 mins
2nd - 14 mins
3rd - 12 mins
4th - 20 mins
5th - 18 mins
6th - 12 mins
7th - 13 mins
8th - 18 mins
9th - 17 mins
10th - 18 mins
11th - 13 mins
12th - 12 mins
13th - 12 mins
14th - 18 mins
15th - 13 mins
16th - 12 mins
17th - 14 mins
18th - 18 mins

I'll have to assume this is off the back tees, with it adding up to a max 4:30 round duration

Plenty players on here will be thinking this is a mighty slow group in front and be starting threads on Monday morning about it! :D
