I'm undertaking a final year University project focusing of Trump's new(ish) golf course in Scotland and the controversy surrounding it. I hope it's OK that I post these questions on here.

What do you think of the highly documented environmental impact that his course has had on the Aberdeenshire coastline? Do you think that the increased tourism brought in by the course leading to a boost in the local economy outweighs the environmental impact? Thanks in advance!

Cant comment on the environmental impact, but I can comment from a golfers point of view and the place is a masterpiece. Visually stunning, challenging to play! Just wish I was a local to make use of the cheaper green fee's they get!

Shouldn't you identify/quantify what increased tourism there has been and what environmental impact has occurred first?

The place looks like a golfing gem. However, having seen the way he treats the locals I would not give him the pleasure of my money

I will reply as a whinging local .... The course is superb now and as time passes will only get better. My golfing pals who have played it tend to compare not scores but balls lost, after a round and they tend to be lowish handicappers!!

The damage to the environment will only be measured over time but as you can imagine, it is now too late to reverse any damage that has been done by the tremendous earth moving that took place.

The promise of local employment proved to be typical Trump hot air - even his resident security is Irish. Walk along the foreshore, legal in Scotland and you will 'enjoy' Irish companions, three in total, offering a KGB type presence. The strange thing is that the two courses between his course and Aberdeen enjoy many, many, walkers on the foreshore with no silent intimidation extended to them and they are the most exclusive clubs in the area.

Now his tourist trade for the city. I would recommend you go to Dornoch and research the impact of their new(ish) golf course on their tourist trade. They did have the wedding of Madge in the local church BUT all golfing guests of any standing are brought in by fast car or helicopter from the airport and not seen again until their departure in the same manner. All their needs are catered for by the owners with the resultant wealth being, no doubt, dealt with in some suitable far off tax haven.

In time Trump will copy this blueprint when his building is complete.

On a personal note, as someone very active in the local golfing scene, I would not play or spectate on any Trump course due to his behaviour of the locals - he is a wealthy bully boy who has used his financial muscle to ride roughshod over the locals and this is a view echoed in the inter club get togethers I attend.

Whinge over!

When they built Woburn in the 1970's there was a lot of concern regarding environmental issues.
A major biodiversity survey was held before the work started and 3 years after it opened.
To the green lobby's great surprise the biodiversity count was way up after the golf course was built. They even had rare species invading the new habitat.
This came as no great surprise to me as the golf course was mainly built on a pine woodlands.

Trumps course was built mainly on a piece of fairly ordinary links wasteland and apart from the shifting dunes structure was not a site of major importance. I appreciate that it was an SSSI but like Woburn I would imagine the environmental impact will be either very low or even improved.

I do not think that it will improve the local economy.
It is set in an affluent area with low unemployment.
Trump will do the old Hi de Hi Holiday camp trick to ensure all of his customers and staff never leave the site.

The main funding plan of housing will probably not happen, that is why Trump is making such an issue about the offshore turbines.

there is no environmental damage

Well beautiful as the course may well be - as the area has been completely remodelled there has to have been at least some damage - because it ain't the same as nature (with a little bit of man's help here and there) shaped it.

And yes - the turbines - spoiling the golfers view of ... the sea? The way he goes on you'd think that all we do when we go to the coast is stare into the distance contemplating the great nothingness and bleakness that is the sea. Of course we 'look' but I know that when at the coast it is the sounds and smells of the sea and shore that I go for - not to gaze across 11miles of sea to the horizon.

What has been completely remodelled?
Go see it for yourself then form an opinion.

Have no interest in ever playing it - trying to create a false top course and the guy is a complete and utter "insert swear word here"

Watched the program about it and think the way the locals were treated by him is a disgrace.

Hope it all falls flat on its face

Given that he paid £7 million for the place and it is now reckoned to be worth around £100 million I somehow doubt it will fall on its face. Some of the locals were treated in a poor manner yes. Think it will go on the host tour events and possibly the Open in the future

Nothing wrong with a good wind turbine. The one at Reading can often be more entertaining than the football.

I hope the The Open doesn't get anywhere near the place - it's false and dripping with Trump arrogance

Thankfully I don't expect the R & A to touch it.

Will not be just yet but money talks and I believe it will happen in the future if Trump wants it to. He is a man that gets what he wants and if he wants the Open to be hosted there I think it will be a forgone conclusion

Many courses in the uk have tried to "buy" the Open and it hasn't worked - he won't be able to buy the Open - they have their rota and they stick to their principles.
