Open Qualifying

Had been intending to go to International Final Qualifying at Sunningdale for weeks but in the end had a work commitment. I think they are changing the qualifying next year so don't know if it is coming back there.

Congrats to Hobbit Jnr. Is he now off to Local Final Qualifying?

This is one thing that makes the Open a truly great event in my view. Anyone who is good enough can have a go at getting in, and even winning.

Gutted for Ally Forsyth again, lost out in a play off yet had two doubles during qualifying.

thats a shame, I've followed him since watching him pull his trolly in challenge tournaments thru 'making' it on the tour and coming in the top 10 a few times, but the last 2-3 years something has happened, maybe thats just golf as all us amateurs know but it shows it can happen to the pro's as Alistair hits the ball better than any of us can dream............yet he struggles...........putting/short game possible.

It is supposed to be posted up later today, i.e. which one of the 4 venues he will be at. I keep checking but nowt yet.

Yes :) Only issue with Sunningdale is finding parking although I believe there was somewhere nearby set up.

I went yesterday, parking wasn't an issue. There was free parking on some of the fairways at Sunningdale ladies club next door but I only found that out when I walked past after paying £6 for the day to park at Sunningdale rail station which is 5 min walk away.

Followed Monty round and watched the play off as well, great day out as you can right up close to the players due to the much smaller crowds.

He missed a very short putt to lose out, from where I was standing it didn't look to be anymore than 3 or 4 feet max

Staright uphill, should be bread and butter for those boys.

Was he still using his belly putter or is he back with his short stick???

Using a short stick if memory serves me right. Ironically he lagged a long range beauty stone dead on the first play off hole, was closest to the flag on the 2nd but missed after Oleson holed for birdie.

Would have liked to go to Hillside or St Anne's OL to watch local Final qualifying, some good names there, Phil Archer, Paul Broadhurst, Lloyd Saltman to name a few.

Well done to Hobbit Jnr and good luck to Steve, Mary. West Lancs is very good and I would say easily the hardest of the four. Can be brutal in the wind. Make your score through the first 12 holes.

Cheers Jason - your best wishes and course info received by Steve, with thanks! A bit unfortunate that he is the final tee-time, as he is playing EuroPro in Ireland the following day.
