Open countdown: Turnberry course changes

Looks better than Augusta.

Give over man!!! You cant compare the 2, Augusta is an absolutely stunning parkland course that is very very very aesthetically pleasing.

Turnberry is a links course that is very, well, bland for want of a better word, but in its own right as a links course is truly stunning also.

Unfair comparison if you ask me.

How can you compare Turnberry with Augusta, Turnberry is one of the best most beautiful examples of a proper links golf course that is oozeing with history and class think Duel in the sun think Gregs 63 (the best round in a major ever), Augusta is some fake overly American overly manicured overly green overly flowerd overly spoilt overly expensive hell on earth.

Just my opinion I have been there (Augusta) a couple of times (obviously not played) the only thing I really liked about the place were the members very helpful and friendly as a course it does nothing for me although I do like the 13th.

Turnberry I have been lucky enough to play three times each time it was a sunny day and I would say it is an amazing place and my favorite course.

Augusta is a nice, pretty golf course. But the aesthetic beauty of a golf course is more about the surroundings than the actual course itself, taking examples nearer to home, Gleneagles Queens and Boat of Garten are lovely courses but it's the views all around that make them such great places to be even if you're not a golfer. From what I've seen of it (on tv admittedly, although I have been in the area) Augusta National doesn't quite have that.

It simply cannot compare to somewhere like Turnberry, which is an absolutely beautiful course with great coastal views.

Nothing nicer than being on a links course on a warm summer day.

See paddy is going well in the Irish PGA which he has won the previous week before winning the open the last 2 years he won in a playoff then beat sergio in a playoff and last year he won by 4 shots then won the open by 4 so if he wins on saturday who knows.

I think the trees get in the way chap....

I'd say it was very bland when you put it next to Augusta, that may or may not, depending on your stance, be overly flowery & pretty.

I did say, to complete my sentence, that as a links course it is stunning.

Not the way it reads but cheers for the explanation.I have walked it and trust me although I aint been to Augusta I couldnt imagine it could in any way be seen as bland up against Augusta.
