Open Competitions 2016

The only issue I find with Open comps is that most of them are for pairs as far as I can see....and as I don't have a PP in the UK difficult to enter! :(

Chris, none of the opens up here are pairs, did you not play any when you were at Fortrose?

as for 4/5 day opens, i think they all have them, ones ive played

Moray
Nairn Dunbar and Nairn are consecutive weeks
Tain
Dornoch
I'm sure Brora and Gospie

Golf Empire good place to search as there are hundreds of events and amateur tour information. Depends what you want really.... I play in loads of mid ams. Great courses, great value and all qualifiers.

I do use Golf Empire, but I was after recommendations from you guys rather than a list available.

If you're over 35, would 100% recommend playing in some of the Mid Am Tour events.
Fantastic organisation and a great bunch of players. Top courses, 36 hole events, all qualifiers.

Done them both last few years. Best courses in the region and in my opinion, Hollinwell is the best.
Played Notts scratch open last year and will enter again this. Stupid having it in October as people struggled to get round whilst still light, but such a good course

Golf Empire needs to improve its interface drastically imo. If they are going to be the 'no1' for golf opens, they need a calendar view that can be sorted by region, type of comp etc.

Sometimes i decide I want to play and open the week before and will chance my hand trying to get a later entry, finding one should be so much easier than it is.

Hollinwell is superb. It was the venue for the MidAm final last year which I qualified for. It was free golf and grub. Another great reason to play in the MidAm events.

I don't mind the club run ones Rick but some of the Midam run ones are pretty pricey

Day after men's open wasn't it?

Need to reduce the age of the Mid-am.

Or launch a subsidiary for younger golfers. I'd love a national tour (that is congu registered) and would be all over it.

Where have you folks booked for this year then?

I have tried some local tracks I've not been on before;

May - Radcliffe on Trent
June - Wollaton
July - Coxmoor
August - Beau Desert (forum recommendation)
August - Moortown (only repeat from 2015)
October - Woodhall Spa (this was my cannot miss for 2016)

Other away days booked and really looking forward to;
The Berkshire
Dundonald Links
Glasgow Gailes
Moor Allerton

Will also be in Scotland in July, courses to be confirmed...

I agree some may be pricey, but not all........

Eg Sheringham.....36 holes, free practice round, coffee, bacon roll, lunch and £1000 of vouchers up for grabs. £110 entry fee.

2 qualifying rounds on a great course with a free round and food thrown in......

Sheringham is normally £75 a day so for 3 rounds, that's £112.50 without food, prizes, and the qualifying rounds and everything else that tournament golf has to offer.

I'd argue that is great value.
