The fairways were watered to stop them getting too fast. They said that with the rough being so thick, having the fairways as fast as they normally are would have made many holes unfair.

You were questioning why wouldn't they water fairways, and I was giving a reason as to why it would be deemed somewhat unusual for a links course to actually water them - given the supposedly heavy rain in the area in the weeks leading up to the tournament and also that the standard template for a links course in summer is firm fairways with scorched grass on them.

How much water were they applying do you know and do you think it was more or less than the evaporation rate last week?

And btw it was a mud fest at start of the week!
