Online Petition - Help save Blue Mountain Golf Club

It seemed to be saying 11 more required (think it was to reach 1500) - is there something that'll happen once the number is reached?

The next milestone is now 2500 because we blew 1500 in no time at all - thanks in part to this forum :thup:. I'm not sure if the organisers are needing a specific total - just as many as possible I guess.

I hate to see golf courses close the memories people have of playing and socially its just not right.We had a club local to me Reymerston golf club in Norfolk close a couple of years ago, its now farmland :(.Duly signed :thup:.
 
Especially as it sounds like development planning permission for the golf course was given on the basis that that is what was being allowed - on green belt. Sounds too much like using a golf course as a trojan horse to get something else in. Must be resisted at all costs. WE had a David Lloyd centre built on green belt on edge of town - on condition that they rehoused farnham RFC - which they have and the club have a marvellous facility. But too easy now for developers to claim the green belt has been violated so why not housing in addition. Not saying this is on cards - but it is always a risk,
 
I went to the council meeting tonight where they voted to tear up the section 52 agreement that was there to protect the golf course land from development for a minimum 125yrs.

Sadly it didn't go our way, 34 councillors voted to renege on the agreement , only 6 voted against and 1 abstained.

Its been on the south news tonight. Massive sense of anger and frustration from people against the development but what can you do? If the council and the land owner both decide to tear up the agreement there is apparently not a lot you can do about it.

Blue Mountain will now be closing and the best part of 200 acres of lovely landscape will be concreted over. Very sad indeed.

So was their some get out clause in the contract/agreement? Can it be appealed to a higher authority?

As I understand it Fish , back in 1990 the land owner built a lot of homes but made an agreement with the council to protect the 200 acres or so. This later became the golf course as we know it today. It was an agreement between those two parties so no get out clause needed. If they both agree to tear it up they can - apparently.

Not sure if anything else can be done about it now. its upset a lot of people because the council have gone back on their word. An agreement that was supposed to be for life (for many people) turned out to be 24 years. And we are supposed to trust these people?

The council are under pressure to build new schools and affordable homes and suddenly this land looks to good to turn down, so they do away with the agreement.
 
Shame to hear this. Will have been a done deal many moons ago. Also another 200 less acres for water to drain so more concrete and less drainedge leading to more flooding. Absolutely crazy but still sure some brown envelopes have gone round which will not affect those involved.

I have had dealings with councils in other matters and take it from me they are mostly a useless crooked bunch. Do not believe one word they tell you, do think contracts and land boundaries cannot be altered and never think that Green belt land cannot be built on. Just over a year after we had our dealings with them they were under investigation for fraudulent activities and all suddenly resigned their posts. Lip service pal that's all you get from them
 
Councils do tend to work for the common good but it is amazing how many under used and costly sport sites, swimming pools, libraries etc suddenly become the place that the public used on a regular basis.

Our Council closed the swimming pool at Girvan. The pool was little used and very costly to run. They built a new, free to use, adventure type playground with the money saved. The playground was an instant success, attracted many visitors. very low cost to run and has really enhanced a visit to the town for families with children.

People do not always see the big picture. A few years ago a guy was stabbed to death by someone protesting about the closure of an ancient, little used and very costly to maintain swimming pool closure. There was another new pool situated less than two miles from the one that closed.
