I just don't seem to get the distance I should out of rescue/hybrid clubs, nice contact usually but a high ballooning flight, now I hit all my irons high anyway but the hybrid just takes off and as such doesn't carry as far as it should, I hit my 5 iron next to a 22 degree hybrid and it carried identical. I feel I'm missing out by not carrying one, so I've ordered an Adams A12 19 degree hybrid to do some comparison with my 5 wood and 4 iron.
I've just noticed Mizuno offer a 3 iron replacement hybrid with a steel shaft, what if any difference do you think a steel shaft could make in a hybrid as a lot of companies don't offer a steel shaft in hybrids.

I have a bunch of hybrids with steel shafts. The major difference is weight. They seem to go a much more set distance with the heavier steel shift, as an iron would.

A hybrid should go farther than a 5 iron, if only due to the longer length.

What hybrid was it, and what shaft and flex?

I don't like the trend towards lighter hybrid shafts but there are plenty of decent weight shafts available for most, without needing to go to steel. Very few pros use steel shafted hybrids.

I'm The exact opposite when it comes to shaft weight in a hybrid.

I've found a lighter, stiff flex suits me better than stock hybrid shafts.

Usual hybrids shafts normally weigh in aground the 80g mark. The Diamana blue I have in my 913h is nearer 70g (72g)

Is the same with my other woods. PXV Tour 52 6.0 (52g) in my driver and a PXv 6.0 (53g) in my 3 wood.

Strangely, I'm the exact opposite with irons playing a heavy regular shaft

Horses for courses I suppose.

Those Xr irons are crazy long. Jacked but boy do they go.

I was in American golf yesterday with a senior flex 4.5 xr 7 iron and it was carrying 190. Some more than that.

That's about the same as my 22 hybrid.

American golf yards. Still crazy long compared to any other irons I tried.

Really liked the new ap 1 and 2 irons. Quality.

I recon if you took an average across the current hybrids on sale today the trend would be closer to 70 grams.

You can swing them faster but if your losing the head then possibly not hitting them as well imo.

As you say though, you pay your money you make your choice.

Probably so with OEM"s all shifting to light weight heads and shafts.

The lighter stiffer model is one that is getting popular, but most normal people carry the idea into their irons too. You must be a bit weird. Kind regards.

Lot weird! :eek::D

They(the manufactures) are looking for your to make that one good hit with their light, faster head shaft combo while at AG or where ever and say "ye, that one is the longest". They then have to take it home and wait for that next one off good swing that could have happened a lot more often if they had a club that they some what knew where it was in the swing....
