A friend of my Mrs mentioned to her that she wished that her hubby was a bit more geeky - a bit more like me in fact she said :)

Me geeky? Well I suppose so - evidence m'lud is that I really love Board Games.

A couple of months back I picked up Lord Of the Rings board game - the Reiner Knizia full game (I also have the RK LoTR Confrontation game and LoTR Risk plus LoTR Risk Expansion limited edition whilst I'm on the subject of LoTR board games). Got my new game from Oxfam for £3.99 - been played once I think - what a bargain and a beautiful and great game.

And yesterday I bought Alan R Moon's Ticket to Ride - Europe - for £3.99 from Oxfam. And it was brand new. Again great reviews and a beautiful looking game.

Note on the above - me displaying added board game geekiness by mentioning the game designer - that's important to board gamers btw :)

And today friends I am considering buying Really Nasty Golf Game - looks good and a few good reviews - but not a 'name designer' game. Anyone played this?

And any other Board Game Geeks out there?

And so dear friends I have bought The Really Nasty Golf Game (£5 - Cancer Research UK). It looks a hoot.

It's a dice based game - roll the dice to give you the distance (squares) your ball travels (forwards and to the side L-R) Can choose to roll 1,2 or 3 die depending how strategic you want your shot to be (e.g. use one die if you want to lay up to a water hazard 6 squares from you). But a player can play nasty by playing a card before a FC rolls the dice. Typical 'nasty' card play is

A FC is on the fairway just short of a pond - the pond is 2 squares in front and it's 4 wide. He needs to throw at least 12 to get to the green and the green is 3 deep and no trouble over the back - he choses to use three dice. Means with luck he should easy clear the water (throw 7+) and should reach and stay on the green (12-15)

I have the following card in my hand and decide to play it against him before he rolls.

TRAMPLED

On the Fairway only
Ball trodden on
Remove 2 Dice

hahaha

nasty :)

We have the really nasty horse racing game and it is superb fun.

Lord of the Rings is a bit Games Workshop for me though.

The In-Laws have a game they picked up from somewhere in the 70's.
It's a Australian game based on Sheep Farming called Squatter.
It is the single most depressing, suicide-inducing "game" ever devised. But we play it every Christmas when things start getting to jolly....

Okay, here is the Ellwood family games cupboard - shelves at top and bottom too that I couldn't get in the photo, plus more to the left.

Never really counted them but must be somewhere in the region of a couple of hundred (15 or so Monopolies, maybe 10 different Risks and so on)...

Sorry, can't make pic any bigger as can't find the original so just screen-grabbed it from a Tweet...

Brilliant - was looking at World Cup France 1998 Monopoly and Stratego 4 while I was out - not a huge fan off Monopoly variants but it looked different - though maybe it's aged?

Stratego 4 - never played Stratego

But both only a few quid each so might just buy them anyway

I'm Speechless!!

I did play a card game called 'UNO' a few weeks ago whilst on holiday with Family. That was good fun.

Used to have a game called 'Speechless' - think it was a cheap version of Pictionary or something like that

Have also just acquired Stratego 4 and a Star Wars Stratego too. My son really loves the game, but I haven't quite got into it to the same degree yet

Might just buy Stratego 4 as it's a few quid in Sue Ryder and unplayed. Mind you it looks to be a 3 or 4 player game so not sure how to play it 2 player. World Cup 1998 Monopoly anyone?
