So then your regular 4-ball. Is this how it is?

There's one of you in particular, and if your group is anything like mine, then it sure as hell ain't you, because this person that I'm talking about has the following happen with monotonous regularity:

  • They carve it into the dense forest and walk straight to it, finding it sitting up on a clump of grass with a nice gap through the foliage to be able to get it back into play.
  • Whilst in there they find 2 Pro V1s and a Z Star in mint condition. You've gone in to help them look and also find a pick-up. Yours is a Molitar extra hard distance rock.
  • Later on in the round you put one in the trees. They've had the honour (natch) and their ball has previously gone off in a similar direction but there'd been a loud crack and it's popped back onto the fairway. Meanwhile you've played a provisional and of course you never find your tee shot. They scramble a par while you scramble a double-bogey.
  • In the club KO they get a bye into round two. You get drawn against the defending champion in the first round.
  • The water hole: they hit a scudder over the drink which does a Barnes Wallace 3 times but somehow it makes it onto dry land. You hit an overhanging branch by the greenside which ricochets your ball thirty yards backwards and you then watch in dismay as it trickles down a steep bank and into the welcoming depths.

Now I wouldn't be surprised if there's even a few of these people lurking here in these very forums. I've yet to meet any of you in person... but I have a hunch about this :D

Not that I'm bitter or anything you understand...:mmm:

It's just that "I'm an unlucky golfer, me, you see?"

Im fairly unlucky as far as golf goes but ive played with a few lucky buggers.

one guy got a Hole in one with a bounce off a tree that was OOB, quite funny as in the clubhouse after there was no tree mentioned in the story;)

I'm pretty sure I've not played with you! A few weeks ago I Hooked one heading OOB on our 3rd load crack as it hit the wall. As we approached the green there she was sat 8' from the pin!

Kraxx who posts in here sometime, is my regular playing partner on a Saturday and he must have been a monk in previous life:-

  • He'll hit a ball into the trees and it'll hit a branch and come back out onto the fairway
  • He' nearly always screws his first about 75yds left into the cabbage off the first tee, but in looking for his ball will find another 1 or 2
  • If he does hit it into the trees, he's always got an escape root and 9/10 it's towards the green
  • I'll duff a shot into the cabbage and he'll follow suit, but it's always his ball we find never mine
  • On the week where the two's hasn't been won for a while, he'll get a single two and win the pot

just a jammy so and so

I've had more of my fair share of lucky bounces so I'm not going to complain. That said, I don't tend to hit it in the trees all that often so I have less chance than many to bounce out.

Hmm, so you say. But can we really be sure? :D

It it weren't for my bad luck on the golf course I'd have no luck at all

I can empathise with this. Just ask my PPs. If there's an unluckier golfer than me in the country then I'd be astounded quite honestly

My regular PP Martyn (Beezerk) hit the luckiest tee shot I've ever seen. Pulled it well left straight through a fence into the trees...and somehow (what felt like 10 seconds later) the ball comes flying out of another part of the fence about 10 yards further up and back in play.....unreal!!

Actually most people only get bad luck when they get lumbered with me as a partner. Just ask Hawkeye who ended up leaving the club and Ads749r who is bugging off with the wife rather than pair up with me in the next pairs event

My pp on saturday, thinned his tee shot on a par three, hit the ledge of a bunker and ended up 4ft away, I hit a tee shot right at the pin which finished 2ft away. He sunk his putt for birdie and I bottled mine!!

Did he call a stroke & distance penalty on himself?

It seems that we here on this forum are, by and large, the unlucky ones in our regular 4-balls. So it must be suffering continual bad luck whilst watching others enjoy endless rubs of the green that herds us together seeking solace.

*Cue the violins*:mmm:

This is me.

Very rarely do I get a good bounce, but it's always appreciated when I do.

My owd boy on the other hand. He really is blessed when it comes to luck on the golf course.

Here's an example.

Par 3, hits his tee shot behind some bushed greenside. Proceeds to take out his lob wedge to 'flop' it over the bush and onto the green.

He then goes on to thin the ball through the bush to 6" from the hole

Tis our lot in life

Its also why in the 300 yard threads my only solace is that the only yard that really counts is the one it fails to clear the hazard/tree by :D
