On a busy day what would you do?

If it was a 2 ball and there were gaps a few groups ahead I'd let them through but if it was busy all the way I wouldn't. If someone hit a ball at me on purpose my mood would be unpredictable at best .... I wouldn't rule out a superstroke fatso shoved where the sun don't shine.

100% agree with you and exactly what we did on the day. Apart from the fatso part!

So someone can't hit a much better shot, as an accident? Does this mean you're one of the people who waits until the 350yard par 4 green is cleared before teeing off?

More than once isn't an accident. If it's obviously slow then it's just ignorance and impatience.

And no I wouldn't wait for a distance I know I have never hit, I would only wait for a distance I know I'm very unlikely to hit.

This poll does not address the issues raised in other threads, this is merely "what do you do if someone shoots at you", which is a different question to "As a 4 ball how to you treat faster visiting 2-ball groups of young players behind you on a busy day".

Option 1: They can see it is busy, don't acknowledge their existence and don't let them through.

The results of that poll might have been interesting, the results of this one were utterly predictable.

Even if this poll had option 1 as "let them through at the first opportunity because that is etiquette" then it might have been interesting, but that's not the option, option one only kicks in once shots have been fired. No one should be shot at. Ever. After that it's damage control. Before that is the mitigation you don't want to acknowledge, this was never going to "educate you with a view to changing your opinion".

It sounds as though if a similar situation arises in future you might leave the faster group through at the first opportunity, or at least speak to them to let them know they are welcome at your club and it is going to be slow but you'll let them through if someone loses a ball. Just a shame this is based on fear of being shot at and not etiquette. The next two might be decent blokes who want to join your club and keep it alive.

Those who know me from the last couple of years on the site will confirm I'm not type to have a personal vendetta, never have done and this is the first time I've had such a heated debate. If you've ignored me you can't see this, shame as I'd like you to know there is absolutely no personal grievance. I just wanted to present people with the facts that you left out to support your own view and for you to learn something about etiquette you have clearly missed.

If you do see this - happy golfing, next time you post that you're annoyed about being held up as you did this weekend I won't respond, there's no point if the irony isn't obvious.

Not at all, we have a difference of opinion and that's fine - we're only human afterall. However I don't expect to go from thread to thread having words twisted and these "arguments" stoked up. I use this forum as a place to vent, learn, laugh and do something more productive than working. I am not interested in fighting over the internet.

So why start another thread about it? THere was more than enough opinion on the original thread, from both points of view. I can only assume starting another is some kind of weird internet attention seeking. Anyway, Ive said enough and I stand by my opinion. Enjoy your golf.
