Oman Open 4 “names” Withdrawn

I appreciate the Oman Open is suffering some rough weather but I notice that four players have withdrawn after round 1. They are all “names” on the ET. I can’t find any comment on sport news websites, does anyone know the reasons for the withdrawals?

Looks like they were playing round 2 and maybe withdrew at the suspension of play (none were playing well day 2 but only Hayden Perteous was playing really bad at +7 thru 9) so maybe he was carrying an injury and figured he wasn't going to make it so why resume 2nd round

I wish the ET site was clearer whats happend when folks withdraw/DQ or whatever. Doesn't need to be personal but just the underlying reason like Injury/Rules breach/CBA etc

I follow Marcel Siem on Facebook and I believe he has withdrawn due to food poisoning. It might not be as dramatic as full on poisoning, more a dodgy stomach, but that was his explanation. If they are staying in the same place, likely, then it is no surprise that others have withdrawn as well.

Of course, they could all be unconnected.

Have to agree with the lack of news on the ET website. A bit frustrating not understanding the individual reasons. Food poisoning is not pleasant when sat on your ba.....side but trying to swing!

Not trying to create any conspiracy theories but my initial (and incorrect) reaction to seeing the withdrawals were all well known names was perhaps something more sinister - I am pleased to say I am merely getting paranoid in old age.

A lot of guys will book 2 flights home from these events. A Friday night and a Sunday night.

With the delays and the carry over of round 2 into today, it may just be a case of knowing they are missing the cut and not wanting to book a 3rd flight, or wait till Sunday night.

May seem trivial, but a week of travelling to Oman and not making the cut will cost these guys several thousand and I don’t think people really enjoy staying at an event after they are out of it.
