Olympic funding cuts

Just having a quick read about some of the sports that have had funding cuts. Am I missing something here.
Eg, badminton has met its target re medals expected, yet has had its funding cut altogether and failed in its appeal. Has as all sports bar one. So has the funding of sports gone political, if not what is happening.

The funding has been political for awhile now, the government increased funding to U.K Sport by around 23% before the last games disgraceful IMO,when the government were implementing cuts elsewhere.

There was a radio programme on BBC Scotland recently that reported that most of the funding went to sports men/ women who came from a privileged backgrounds ,again some public money going to a few.

Where is the so called knock on effect gone now the Olympics are not in the headlines?

Its staggering the millions that are spent by UK Sport.

Yeah golf managed a gold with no lottery funding and those badminton folks don't even play outside so they get year round practice!

How much does it cost to hire a court for a couple hours in the evenings after work anyway ;)

£10 round our way. (But don't worry, I got me mum to sign up to their pensioners membership and book using her ticket online....so now £6! Nutz to 'em!)

I'm afraid the large amount of 'money' slushing around has attracted the professional 'hanger ons' who spend time promoting and publicising their own agendas while extracting significant salaries/fees. This has also polarised the funding allocation so that its about 'results' and not about promoting and increasing the participation in all sports - the original argument for the Lottery and charitable donations to worthy causes.

The 'richer' sports will get richer and the lesser known will not get encouragement - which in my mind is the opposite way around for 'charitable' activities.

The fact Camelot is actually a commercial organisation with very well funded management further dilutes what actually reaches the sport.

Shame that Archery Funding is being cut, it teaches a discipline and a respect especially to children, that they don't see elsewhere.

My scouts are good kids, but they will not shut up and listen to instructions, jeez knows how any teachers here cope.

But put them on an archery range, they are transformed to a focused disciplined group who have won the district Archery Competition 5 years running.

Sometimes a sports scope is wider than Olympic medals
