Has anyone every purchased new irons/clubs and after a few months been tempted to get their old ones back out. I used to play with TM Supersteel burners and to be fair there was no need to change them.

I only opted for new shineys as my friends has later model irons which seemed more forgiving. Well now a year down the line im not convinced that the move was for the best. The only difference in spec was that my supersteels were stiff graphite shaft and the new burners were regular steel.

As proved when i replaced my older 09 burner with the r11 sometimes change isnt for the better and its now got me wondering if its worth having a wack with my old irons.

what i dont want to do is upset anything, but at the moment i dont think im playing my best golf so if im tempted it may as well be now. It may highlight a problem with the shaft flex in my irons if nothing else.

Went through similar soul-searching when I dumped my old Supersteel Burners (very ratty but playing short but accurately)and replaced them with Mizuno MX-200's.

Turned out that I needed the clubs fitting - after that all went a lot better than ever before.

Have you had fitting on the new clubs?

not yet, although it is something im considering. I keep reading about wrong shafts after custom fitting which makes me wonder if a CF is the right thing to do or not. The thing is my 09 burners are mint and unmarked and to be fair my supersteels are not bad either, in an ideal world id like to find a 6i/7i in the same spec as mine with a stiff shaft and play them back to back, see if there is any difference.

If i go CF i suppose it would end up ping, but at 32 i dont see that as an option.

I did revert to my old irons for a couple of rounds and then found that it was nothing to do with the clubs. Went to our teaching Pro who sorted out a couple of bad habits and suggested I get the Mizzy's fitted.

Might be worth a try before mentally discarding some expensive gear?

went back to TM300s this year after getting rid of my battered Titleist 690MBs, going from stiff to regular took a bit of getting used to but was quite a bit easier for a while. resorted back to mizuno blades just now, early signs are good but keep wondering what if every time i hit a bad one.

yeah maybe. thing is i like the burner irons, but the only thing pestering me is the fact that they were regular and my older ones are stiff. Now my old irons i could really go at, but these if i do that tend to go left, which seems a tell tale sign of a week shaft.

For nothing else other than peace of mind it may be worth a fitting session with a pro just to find out if the shafts are wrong. The only reason i changed was i was looking for more forgiveness, but maybe the old irons wasnt so bad.

Last 2 sets of irons before the current ones have been stolen so not reallty been an option for me :( Only club I really change about with is the putter and often go back to old ones for a round or two.

More forgiveness than the Supersteels? Sounds more like to me that you were seduced by the 'shiny new metal strumpet' ... I know her well

in all fairness your right, everyone had new sticks and i wanted some. but in reality the supersteels needed a regrip and if I was going to spend 120 on a regrip, I may as well have had new sticks.

The problem with the supersteels (So im told) is due to the bubble shaft grip choice is limited. I had the old 5wood done and had to have a yonex grip on that.

Not so sure about that advice - I re-gripped my Supersteels at least twice, once with original TM's and the next time with Golf Pride Multi-compounds, but anyway, doesn't matter now ... Interesting comment about pulling left though - that was exactly my problem and it turned out that my grip had opened up. Weak left hand, strong right, nout to do wi clubs ...

my natural shape with the SS was a slight right to left (soft draw) the burners seem to have magnified this.

Ive got a lesson booked for thursday with my old pro, i want him to check my swing after 12 months with a new pro and see if he is happy, he should pick up if its a fault or not, but going to check anyway. The new pro has been trying to change my natural shot shape for 12 months.
