A great afternoon, one of the most enjoyable rounds I've played. Certainly the most enjoyable this year! Played some measly golf but some hidden gems among there. Particularly fond of my sand wedge and I may actually give it a run in my normal bag!

Great day with lads. Really enjoyed the course. It is a pleasure to play a heathland course especially at this time of the year.

plenty of fairway bunkers to negotiate. Pretty much slap bang in our landing zone for our drives. We would have sailed most of those with modern equipment.

Playing with the old gear was exciting and a real challenge. You couldn't play auto pilot golf.

Those greens were tricky. Over the moon with 31 points. Selling my modern clubs. They are a waste of time. Lol

Thanks again boys.

Well that was one of the most enjoyable rounds of golf I've had in a long time. :)

Thanks to Mark, Dan and Gary, all credit to Gary who made the trip down from Liverpool.

After a full English and checking out each others tools by the practice green we headed out onto the course, 75% of us overcame the first tee nerves okay.
In a game of 4BBB matchplay Dan & Gary took on Mark & me and it was close all the way. A heroic putt from Mark on the 17th saw us all square heading down the last but Dan and Gary were too strong and stole the match 1 up.

Gary also won the tankard with a respectable score, especially the front nine.

I'm sure that there were a lot of shots not normally seen on the course but it was a great laugh all the way round.

Lovely course to play on as the fairways were dry with a bit of run for the low launched woods and once I'd realised I needed to take at least one more club, often two more, I started to get the distances I was aiming for.

My nemesis, as feared, was my putter. I just couldn't get comfortable with it, a tiny sweet spot near the socket plus a loose head, I rarely hit a putt that didn't feel woolly, though I did hole a few good ones.

Only one shank as I racked up a gross 91 for 26 Stableford points, those clubs are keepers. :D

My 1 iron is comical. Impossible to hit.

What is it with old irons and their ridiculously flat lie angles?

No one was over 6 foot tall until the 60's, Gaz.

Gaz's putter is a thing of beauty, an art form even. More glue than Porcelain, I think though.

If this happens again next year, might have a bash - will be scouring the oxfam, in the meantime - might bump into Lincoln quaker, buying some new threads, as well.:D

Sounds like a cracking day, and a great idea - nice to see someone thinking outside the box.

Should have been medal, though.;)

Yeah it was a real good laugh. Not knowing what someone was going to do with any club kept a constant feeling of excitement and intrigue.

stinging fingers from thinned irons was a common enough theme for me. Better thin than fat. Still goes in the right direction.

I went round in 81 which wasn't bad. The pins were in some awkward places as there was a pro am on the day before. Birdie opportunities were hard to come by.

I didn't know until Friday that Armitage Shanks made golf clubs.

It would be good to see a few more hunting through charity shops for that classic set if we do another one.

I wish I'd taken my old set out with me today though instead of my usual set, I'd have had an excuse then for playing crap.
