Oh Deer

how do you prevent the cows from damaging the fairway, or greens?

The cows were just a one off - even the locals stood slack jawed in shock.

The other bit of wildlife I rememberthat day was a red crested JustOneUK. A shy creature only ever spotted from far away, about 350 yards up the ajoining fairway. Often disguising itself in the natural camoflage found in the trees and bushes.

We have loads of these...

Only joking...

At Sundridge Park you can see the parakeets throughout the day and as dusk approached there are often hundreds of the blighters flying overhead to roost.

Bob. When you come south, it's worth checking out Knole Park in Sevenoaks (now sadly OneOak after the '87 storm). Great course and as many deer as you could wish for. They might get out of your way, eventually. Check out their site http://www.knoleparkgolfclub.co.uk/index.lasso?pg=e7de61e08bb44ffe

We get numerous sparrow hawks an birds of pray the eliminate pigeons and crows so thats no worry apart form finding your ball in a bird carcass! We also have Jet black rabbits that inhabit the slopes and mounds of the driving range

Have seen a few deer one that ran towards me before bolting on the 7th green which provided a great excuse for my appalling pitch :D

We have a pair of Red Kites that are about, also chipmonks have been reported though I have not seen these. The Red Kites are beautiful to watch and really calms the game down.

Looks good leftie. I look forward to playing it soon
:)

Chartham Park in East Grinstead is FAMOUS for it's wildlife, often seen roaming free and untethered around the fairways.

Obviously the herd of cows on the 12th is always a special treat, but if you go there at the right time, and stand perfectly still on the 17th green, you can sometimes see a lesser spotted Smiffy with it's unique cry of 'notanotherbluddythreeputt'.

Of course this is a sight not unseen on other local courses at the right migratory times of the year.

An untethered Smiffy. No photograph can do it justice.

I've seen this too, and agree with Craphacker, it's a sight not to be missed. :o :D

Golfmmad.

We have quiet a few animals at our club, but not many of them play on Sunday morning so I don't mind.

I do enjoy watching the seagulls tap dancing for worms though, and we did have a cat that used to steal balls on 12th.

I beg to differ. For a small, no delete that, a large fee I could post a link to Smiffy's swing (with expletives included at no extra charge)taken at a recent meet at Highwoods GC.

Unfortunately the rights to my videos of Golfmmad's and Craphacker's swings at the same venue have already been bought up together with mine by Videojug :p :p

We get the usual wabbits, woodpeckers and Kites etc etc . But the one thing we have is Grass Snakes - the place is swarming with them - totally harmless but still give you a shock when you're searching for a ball in the rough and one pops its head up to argue with you!

Parrots are quite common around London now.

Parakeets!

As to cows, Brora has plenty. Keep 'em off the greens with a little electric fence. I think the pro shop missed a trick by not hiring banjos - just so some of us could actually prove we couldn't hit ...
