In the past I have been semi synical concerning club fitting and how much difference it can make.
Having started playing again about 4 years ago the wrong side of 45 I have hacked my way down to 14 handicap so thought I would buy myself some new irons.
My original Wilson Di7's have been fine but thought it would be nice to have a set of irons custom fitted.
Anyway after trying all and sundry clubs it came down to Ping S56's or i15's and I plummed for the i15's because the S56's needed my 'A' game all the time.
The irons were delivered this week and what a difference. Much better /higher ball flight, divots are flat i.e. not angled and I feel really confident every time I stand over a shot.
So now I truly am a believer and the bottom line is if you are buying new irons GET FITTED even if you are paying a bit more you wont regeret it.
My dilema now is should I do the same for 3 wood, utilities and driver - scary money

LOL I think I am going to sticky this one and you can revisit in a couple of months time when you have posted blaming the irons for the worst score ever! :D

I've looked long and hard at the S56's but having tried them on several occasions my iffy swing can't do them justice. However I'm taking delivery of a demo set of I15's to use all weekend (black dot regualr loft/lie) and so I'm looking forward to that. I really, really like them a lot and have to say they've been the best club I've hit (for my level) all year although the new Mizzy JPX 800 Pro would be a very, very close 2nd.

I think C/F has its merits and I've benefitted in the past but also struggled after getting fitted too so I'm not entirely convinced. I tend to get on pretty well with most regular shafted clubs off the shelf but there is always the problem of whether the standard shaft fitted is THE ideal one for me.

I play the i15s i think you will be hard pushed to find a better iron..very long and forgiving club. But lately i have been thinking of buying a set of s56 and replacing my wedge and 9iron first then 8 and 7 once i get use 2 them!as the 56s are alot more pleasing on the eye!

I've seen all the arguments for/against custom fitting and whilst I accept that it can be the right way to go for some, I'm still not convinced that it is right for all.

The reason I say this is because I am painfully aware that my swing when someone is analysing it (whether a fitter or my Pro giving a lesson) is TOTALLY different to the one I use when I am out on the course.

Until the two swings can become one ..........

I tend to agree Leftie.
Although I've never hit irons better than I am at the moment with my fitted MP58's.
I feel a proper driver fitting coming soon.....

I was a believer, but after having a driver fitting, I am not so sure. It might have been the right driver for me, and might have given me the best chance of hitting it long, but it didn't work for me at all. Got a random driver off the net, bought on a whim, having never hit it, and it is way better than the c/f one.

I am steadily assembling a whole bag of T/F'd clubs. So far I have my driver, 4w, hybrid and wedges, all bought by guess work. Happy with all of them too.

Just need to find some irons....
