The floor becomes the face above the normal level of the sand.

I'll add a bit based on the definition of bunker - "The floor becomes the face above the specially prepared area of sand."

Posh folk call it Gill an (hard g).
Most folk call in Gull an also hard g.

That is an extreme example. We only have one revetted bunker. The others are more gradually sloped. The sand immediately below any grass may be from 30* to 80* from the vertical.

Where are the limits of the "specially prepared area of sand"?
Imo, that entire sand area is bunker.
