Hi All

Long time lurker, 1st time poster

Myself and some friends (6 total) are looking at going away for a couple of nights golfing. We're based in the north east, and weren't particularly looking to travel far - Northumberland was the preference.

The idea was to go away at the same time as the Ryder Cup - possibly play a course Friday 26th, stay somewhere with decent enough access to sport to watch the golf with some food and drinks, rinse and repeat on the Saturday (but perhaps a different course) and then head out on the Sunday for the singles with plenty more beers thrown in

Does anyone have any recommendations? I know we've left it late but we're not particularly looking at high end courses, just something to make the trip a good one. I guess were looking for a location that fits in with the itinerary more than premium courses

Thanks
Dave,

Maybe have a look at Foxton, Alnmouth GC. Stay in their dormy houses, play there, go into Alnmouth for beers. I think they can set you up with rounds at other courses as well, check on that just to be sure.

I’ve been holidaying in Northumberland for the last 3 years and always play a course . I’ve played Seahouses- nice not too hard course. Dunstanburgh Castle - good course and great value ( my favourite) and Alnwick Castle- nice course , found it a bit hilly for my old knees( good clubhouse) . There’s also Bamburgh Castle, Almouth . We stayed in a village called Beadnell , it’s got 2 pubs with bedrooms . The Craster arms show sport and is a cracking pub

I organised a trip up there last year. I wrote it up on here somewhere.
Played Goswick, dunstanburgh, Seahouses and Foxton. Stayed at a decent b&b in Seahouses.
Was a great trip. Dunstanburgh and Seahouses in particular are both great value.
Seahouses is a good base - places to stay, drink and eat. Right on the coast, in case you fancy a romantic evening stroll...

I’m heading to Beadnell for a weekend in September, not for golf, but looking forward to it.

We did Alnmouth, Goswick and Bamburgh Castle last year. Loved all three. Stayed in the middle of Bamburgh at The Victoria Hotel. Really nice.

Got Dunstanburgh Castle planned en route to Scotland this autumn.

Fantastic. I’ve played them all. Very different challenges on each one.

You staying in the hotel and dining in the 2⭐️ Michelin restaurant each night?

I think we’re staying elsewhere - it’s been organised by someone else so can’t tell you where exactly, but not at the resort. Resources are finite!

Surely a drive to the east coast of Scotland has to be on the cards?

Some of the finest courses in GB on that coast at the North Berwick region.

True, but Gleneagles isn’t cheap either.
Is their green fee not about £300 for each course?
It varies according to the time of year. At peak season it is high, £375, but it goes down as low as £105 (in December to be fair)

It's definitely jumped in pricing, but where hasn't?

Note that 2 Northumberland clubs are now in the EL members scheme. You need to be a member of any of these clubs to get a game.
