Nike Sucks?

Nearly all of my golf clothing is Nike. Brought an ex demo Nike Machspeed 6 iron for a fiver because I couldnt be bothered to go home and get my clubs before going to the range. It was quite a nice club except for being ugly.

Head turned by the Nike dollar? - hmmm - better the devil you know than the devil you don't. That said - $125m over 5 yrs is a lot of money. But so what? Even now and given his likely future earnings without Nike - he doesn't need the money. But money turns heads as does the turn of a shapely hip. And Rory O'More wants it all and can have it all. But when you have it all you can only but lose some of it. Just hope he knows what he is willing to lose.

Where is the love for Nike gear?

For the last couple of years i have seen a common dislike for Nike stuff on here and the recent Rory signing has rekindled it. I don't get it.

I have used a Nike driver and loved it, my current 3wood is a Nike and my go-to club. My Nike Shoes are far better than the (where did my heel go) Adidas 360 i used last year and the Nike VR pro combo irons are golfing porn.

Why are so many on here whores to Taylormade, Callaway and Ping.

Go on give Nike a try, you might be surprised.

I think it's just a matter of people having their preferred manufacturers rather than hating Nike. Also think that it's more apparent at te moment due to the hyperbole and poor secrecy about Rory's switch, so the high profile has just brought it to the fore that's all.

As for my own opinions, generally speaking in a Nike fan, my last set of Irons were Nike VR cavities, my last Driver was the SQ 5000, I have some quality made Nike golf clothing and just bought a pair of their shoes, not to mention my VR Pro 2H being one of the best clubs in my bag.

I don't know what Nike were like when they first started manufacturing golf gear as I wasn playing then, but they are now a brand leader because they made good gear, but until they have 20+ years of high end gear behind them like other brands they'll struggle to convince people. The longer they're around the more people will take notice.

Nothing against nike but there is no way i will be going out to buy any club just because they sponsor a certain player. its got to be what is right for me. Saying that i know that i am paying inflated prices because of how much the large companies are paying the pros.
on a side note there is a limit to the cost, i really fancied the new taylor made ghost putter, which was about £160 but i settled for the wilson pro staff at £29, the cost is always a factor when the wife is involved in golfing decisions.

I had a Nike sumo driver when I started out. That was a great club 25 yards longer than my brother in law.

My mate ow has it and has never liked driver, but now he's smashing them straight and long!

I've got a nike str8 fit driver and nike shoes. The driver is a great bit of kit but I have tried a callaway razr fit driver and hit it better than the Nike. I love the Nike shoes and I have 2 pairs which have fitted great straight out of the box. Personally I rate Nike clubs over TMs over marketed gimmicks.

All my golf T Shirts are Nike Dri Fit. Don't like their golf shoes, hurt my feet alot. Never tried Adidas and have just stuck with FJ ever since.
Had a Nike Dymo SQ Driver. Loved it but the Titleist gave me extra yards and more importantly bigger carry yards so I changed it.
Quite liked the feel of the Method but was no improvement over my Scotty so wouldn't change.

Was in a Nike Golf Store in Mandalay Bay Hotel in November and all their better player equipment looked pretty nice. Their other stuff did not appeal to me looks wise though. But never hit any as my Pro Shop doesn't stock it and don't know any mates with it to try theirs.

Clubs all come from the same casting/forging houses, so nothing really different about them. I had a Sasquatch years ago (cost me £1) that I liked - shaft wasa genuine Diamana Blue and the Pro Combos have always looked good and played well.

Does seem that their golf offerings are slightly tokenism (apart from Driver) with most of their effort being focussed on clothing. Putter offerings certainly seem second tier to me.

Nike balls - crap.
Nike Shoes - don't fit my slabs of meat at all!

Nike clothing or clubs no issues with at all. They all get a thumbs up from me!

I've never tried any clubs or apparel, and I don't really have any motivation to do so, for some reason.

I don't really like their trainers either, I've always prefered New Balance.

I've never been a fan of Nike since way back. Adidas always made better looking trainers and sportswear. Having said that, I did have a Nike golf shirt which I really liked and I do have a Nike Sumo squared hybrid ( I actually won 2,3 & 4 hybrids, and a 3 wood in a Foremost magazine comp a few years back). I've long since shelved the 3 & 4, and the 3 wood, but hard as I try, I can't seem to find a replacement for the 2 hybrid, even with the square back. The hybrid is a good club and I may just put the 4 hybrid back and swap out the RBZ 4 I bought last year.

I recently got a new pair of Nike Zoom Advance golf shoes for £30. At first I couldn't bring myself to wear them, but all of my other shoes were old and leaky so decided to start wearing the Nike ones for the winter - despite their whiteness. Have to say that I've been really pleased with them, very comfortable and very dry so far.

All in all, my experience with Nike golf, whilst limited, is probably not as bad as I imagined. Still prefer Adidas and Puma gear though.....

I think Nike is a rather brash brand, aimed at younger trendier players (i.e. not me). Their association with Tiger divides people according to whether they like or don't like Tiger. As far as the equipment goes, they obviously make good shoes, but some of the golf clubs have been more hype than quality. They are getting better though and the Rory deal will help them enormously and shift a lot of kit.

Not a Nike fan. I suppose I just like the traditional old brands and somehow don't feel Nike have "paid their dues".

They do seem to have a good line up of gear and I believe Tom Stites who was the top club designer at Hogan does their irons.

However there is something about the fact that they use their sheer size and presence to buy up players and dominate the market.

Can't help feeling it would have been nice if Rory had said "No, I'm sticking with the people who supported me to get where I am".

The advert is funny but the McIlroy/Woods rivalry might have had a bit more edge of they weren't in the same camp.

Christ, I'd play with Nike if they paid me that sort of money. They are golf clubs, I'll bet that the ones made for him are almost no different to what he currently uses so wont matter what badge they have on them.

What person wouldnt want that kind of money if on offer?

Wouldnt neccessarily go for a club because a player is sponsored by them, but I would go by looks. Nike clubs generally look good. I also like Mizuno, which I have and some callaways too.

It's all down to individual taste, some will like em, some wont. Some will like TM etc and some wont.

I'd not not buy a brand just because they were new to the market, you might get a much better club and a much better price ;-)

Agree with every word of the above. I can't comment on the kit as I've never used any other than I've played the occasional ball that I've found (and sometimes for me a ball's a ball). I did buy a Nike jersey - never again - poor quality.
