Can someone give me the craic re this?

Busy doing Vat return so can't really get onto it til tonight but I thought I would save myself some Google time by asking the forum about it.:smirk:

Pros and Cons?

Is it enjoyable?

Costs?

Who to use for the equipment needed etc etc etc etc.........

Looking to try something different at the club and thought of this today so I am interesting in all your thoughts.

tried it a few years back with special balls and glow in the dark flags can tell you where the club got the kit from though i think it was about a fiver a go.

safety issues these days? as your not allowed to play in the fog at many coureses how would the insurance fare with night golf?

Our club used to do it every Halloween but h&s put a stop to it

Played it once over 9 holes of our par-3 course a few years ago. It took a while to get used to the balls, which were lighter than normal (so they floated). They didn't fly as far in the air but on the green they went a lot further than normal. The other thing I learned was that a torch comes in really handy for club selection if nothing else. :)

We do this quite regularly at our club. It's a really good laugh. The fairways, greens and pin and all lined with glow sticks and the ball has a small glow stick it in. We also had to wear glow sticks on our wrists and round our necks for h&s reasons.

I would definitely recommend it as it's great fun, although quite slow, we played 3 holes and it took around an hour.

I wondered if we will ever have floodlit golf??

on astroturf courses.

would be epic lol, just nip out for a round once the wife is off to sleep.

ive always though that in the dead of winter if a course handy floodlights in place they would only have to maybe have them on two evenings per week to make a killing. a open stableford every tuesday and thursday, golfers would come from the far and wide to play!, might be best at a links course where the ground could take it. that is unless the astroturf idea really took off!

Any idea where your club got the gear from??

Thanks.

a killing to be had I thought.

Huge open air venue in the countryside, glow sticks, whooping and hollering, people falling over....

Sounds like a rave. :)

Sev112 did some night golf quite recently if I recall... might be worth a PM.

Night Golf at my course every year, and I've played it once.

My thoughts:

Needs to be before winter really sets in, otherwise too cold.

I'm not into all this health and safety, but, torches are a must. What we did, whilst everyone was on the tee, put a torch down facing back up the fairway, so others could see when you had finished.

We played 6 holes and to be honest that was plenty.

Choose holes without water, for obvious reasons.

Make sure the Chef is in and has plenty of hot soup waiting your return!

Although I enjoyed it I don't think I'd do again. It's a kind of, been there, done that kind of feeling. But really good fun.

My last club used to have a night golf comp on the par 3 course every Guy Fawkes night, followed by a barbecue and firework display. The night golf consisted of flashing golf balls, glow sticks on the flags, and every player had to bring a torch.Absolutely brilliant fun,and some surprisingly low scores.
