Next years Ryder cup - the forums version

Disagree with this. Why shouldn't someone try and sort something around the same date in a different location. Not everyone will be able to make the location/date anyway.

Give more folk a chance to play a forum meet.

Has the help for heros got any spaces left?

Interesting take. I see your point but I think H4H is a real focal point for many on here and many will be committing a lot of time and money to take part. I would just be concerned how big a field it would attract

The H4H day is one of the outstanding successes of this forum for what it has achieved. It would be stupid to arrange another event at the same or similar time that would deflect any attention away from H4H.

There are plenty of other times throughout the year that something else could be arranged.

So what you are saying is just because another event is organised that someone cant organise another...

I am not taking away from the h4h day I just dont think it should stop someone else starting something else around the same time, even the same date.

So what if 8 (or however many) other people from the forum want to have a meet and call it a Ryder Cup event.

You can either make it or not.

It's the small mini meets that keep the forum going that in turn lead to bigger meets.

I'm not saying that at all and if you feel you can get enough to warrant the time and effort involved them fill your boots. I was merely saying that a lot who would have to travel and with the costs that involved would probably opt for H4H. Of course I accept that many aren't playing in this and like I said, if you think it's a goer, the why not

The OP stated a big group. I just thought you would have more chance of a big group if it didn't clash with another forum meet. just my opinion. H4H is traditionally beginning of October as we get better rates from clubs, and it didn't clash with other meets.:mmm:

They were great days out at Goswick, met some great people off here! Hoping to play there again next year!
I thought I hadn't seen Dodgers name on here for a while, what did he get banned for or are we not allowed to talk about it?

Where did I say you can't organise something on or around the same time? What I said is that it would be stupid to do so but if you want to then crack on.

Smiffy - when is this? I play there a bit, and live close by.

Not quite the same but you have the "Old Farts v Whippersnappers" event being held next year at Forest Pines with two spaces still available if you fancy it.

I always liked the idea of a Ryder Cup type event, and tried a couple of times over the years to get one off the ground, without success.
Biggest problem was venue. Some peoples idea of "middle ground" was a lot different to others!!
;)

Alwoodley, relatively central to the majority of the forum and a class course at that.

As for dates and attendance then I'd consider it if it all fits.

Just a thought, why not work with Rick and Richard and set up H4H Scotland or North on the same day? I know a few of you from very north or scotland are making the huge trek this year which is awesome of you (Val and FD spring to mind i think), but could run on the same day! Also a Northern Ireland or Ireland one? GM H4H takes over the UK!

Anyway, just a thought.

I'd certainly like to play in some sort of comp like this. I think it'd be a lot of fun.

I see both sides on the potential H4H clash. H4H is obviously great and I'm looking forward to playing for the first time this year but it's a big commitment for those of us travelling so far for it, hence not too many are coming down. It's certainly not something I'd be able to attend every year.

If this time of year is good for deals and people want to organise something further north I don't see why not. Be good if it wasn't the same weekend, though, so at least people have the option of doing both... time and money permitting!

I think the idea of regional H4H days is good but at different times of the year. That would give people who are happy to travel the option of playing in multiple ones
