New years golf resolution

Alan,

After watching you play and swing a club, I have absolutely no doubt that 14 or better is easily achievable for you.

Hope you and the family have a great 2010.

Crawford.

Hi Crawford,

Thanks for the vote of confidence, just got to go out and do it next year and not to think too much about it. Likewise all the best for 2010 to you, your wife and the kids.

All the best to all on the forum as well.

Alan

I never check my score i just jot down the shots for each hole and if i have time ill check the points after the front 9..... There's no point i think trying to keep to par because your putting yourself under due pressure. That way i can leave bad hole's behind me and concentrate on the next hurdle.... The more i enjoy the round in turn the better i play which im sure is par for most...

Sorry AMcC, misunderstood you there.

'Just play the shot' is a good adage, you could market and sell that slogan ;).

I just meant if I need to finish par par to get into my buffer I want to know about it.

Two years ago I joined a club and GOT a handicap.....last year I managed to KEEP my handicap, and as I havent been playing since early November, my NYR is for next year is to get it down from 20.3 to 15. A bit of an ask but I feel it is attainable

TBH I'll probably put far to much pressure on myself to improve my h'cap because of my business. People will just expect me to make drastic improvements. Well, that's how I'd think, rightly or wrongly!

So I guess that one of my goals will be to make that cut. Two thirds of my game says I can. Five holes per round says I can't. Only the business and family will dictate the time I have for it.

Despite giving up the fags for two months in 2009, the sad truth is that I couldn't keep it up. Though I would like to thank everyone for their support. It really did help. Especially as I went cold turkey with no patches, gum or local authority help. Perhaps that should really be my goal for 2010.

New Year resolutions as a general rule don't happen. Instead I prefer to set targets for the year.

No booze?

I'm sampling a nice French Merlot I got as part of a winter special pack from Majestic Wine. The obligatory sensations Thai sweet chilli crisps as accompaniment...

So much for the NYR I posted earlier :o, although it's not 2010 just yet! ;)

Lose a bit weight, get fitter and play more golf. Last couple of years have been lucky to play a couple of times a month instead of my previous 3 to 4 times a week and the game has suffered.

Also looking forward to meeting others on the forum and playing different courses.

Tonight's the night people. What's your golfing resolution going to be?

To play golf.

That's it really. I couldn't have managed more than 8 or 9 rounds all last year. I need to play enough to get to play to 18. ( Anyone got a couple of grand spare to pay for the club membership, a couple of new woods, and a few lessons ;) )

Might be tricky with the outside golf resolutions tho'.

Get promotion, pay off all the old debts, and maybe even get married are probably a tad more important in the overall scheme of things.

( PS apologies for suggesting that anything should be more important than golf - I'll wash my mouth out :o )

But having said that, I enjoyed every minute out on the course this last 9 months - even playing in howling winds and snow with James the other week. It just goes to show that a bad day on the golfcourse is better than any day off the course.

So maybe I'll forget about playing to 18, and just promise to enjoy every minute with a club in my hand - either on the course, or at the range.

 :D

5 shots off the handicap (from 22 to 17, which I think is very achievable - I am playing much better than my handicap over the winter)

also to get some gold letters arranged in the shape of my name on one of our prize boards - this may have to be an act of vandalism rather than achievement given how poorly I have played 17 and 18 the three times I have been in contention this year!

OK a bit late but here they are:

1) No more Mr Nice Guy in comps. Need to get a more ruthless streak to win as much as I can and find a way of grinding a competitive score even when not playing well

2) Learn to trust my swing and realise that the range is for practice and the course is for playing. It'll never be textbook but find something that works and repeats and get on with it

3) Enjoy it regardless. Its only a ball and the score is only a number

4) Get to single figures

5) If I'm going to practice make sure its constructive and not about hitting balls. A good short game is worth more than a mediocre full swing
