new rules change!

Am I not right in thinking that its not just the wedges that have to change its all your irons, a lot of clubs will have illegal grooves otherwise you could just have your 9 iron bent to 56.

I agree that for 95% or so of us mortals we won't notice a vast difference especially from the rough anyway. I seem to remember with the illegal drivers a few years back there was a longish lead time before they were finally declared illegal in competitive play and the same will happen this time. By the time we have to worry, most of us will have worn at least one set of wedges out anyway.

My understanding is that all new irons manufactured in 2010 will be made under the new groove regulations, so when us mere morrtals change our clubs we will be purchasing clubs with the new grooves.

I wasn't aware of that. Is it all releases in 2010 or just little by little. What I'm saying is if Ping, Cally etc unveil their new line up in the Spring and then if they are like TM and add a new line before the end of the season, will the grooves be the new version for both sets or only the later model. I think you get what I'm saying

Groove rule applys to all clubs with a loft greater than 26 degrees or thereabouts so if your 8 iron has square grooves they'll be banned too.

I believe all clubs manufactured from 1st Jan will conform to the new rules. So if you want square grooves to keep you going for the next 15 years buy now!!

Its going to make the 2nd hand market interesting from next year.

Is it coming in for all releases next year or will manufacturers be phasing it in. As TM seem to have 3 releases a year do you think they willl have new grooves straight away or sucker punters into buying wedges and then reverting to the new legislation later on

I bought one of the MD Seve Grind wedges last week. Has the square grooves to aid spin and all that. Still haven't managed to spin a ball or stop it dead with either old or new wedge........

At least I got another few years to try and learn it :)
