I'm in the market for a new putter and was looking as the Scotty Cameron Studio Select, Has anyone got one of these and what are their thoughts on it?
I will of course be trying one out before i buy i just wanted some feedback thats all.

I have a newport 1.5 which I love. This putter will be buried with me.
If I am having a bad day with it (not often though), it is definately me, and not the putter. Most of the time I am very very confident I will putt well.
It has a nice feel, gives a good roll, and looks fantastic. If I had one small critism it would be that it glares a bit in bright sunshine.

I wonder what the new California series will be like, as they are slightly duller in finish.

If I was looking now, I would wait til these come out, and compare.

I have just bought a 1.5 scotty as well and like the look of it. However, i think it is probably a fine peice of engineering and should not be given its first outings on relatively poor winter greens. I have therfore decided to put it in the garage till march!

Stronger man than me x

Careful with the Scotties - can be a very expensive mistake. I've owned about 4 various scotties and have fallen out with all of them.
There is something in our psychology that sees top pros playing them so think we should play them too.
However pros are playing on much better, faster greens than most of us and have far superior strokes to us.
They are not very forgiving and have very samll sweet spots so make sure you are a very good putter before you buy one.
They do ooze quality but don't suit mediocre putting strokes imo.

I agree that they are not the most forgiving of putters, and you need to strike consistently out of the smallish sweet spot. For this reason i went for an Odyssey white hot,and saved myself a fortune!

Tend to agree with birdieman. I've always been an Odyssey man myself. I don't think there is £100 difference between a £100 putter and a £200 one in performance or quality, just the hole in your wallet. Scotty C's do look nice but good value ?? Still, if I picked up one and it felt miles better than the others in the shop then I'd probably buy one. Never happened yet though..... or am I just tight? :D :D

Good timing thread, as I am in the same situation, and very nearly wrote the same thing yesterday. Have been a Ping putter man for about 20 years. Had an Anser2 for most of that until about 3 years ago when I bought a Craz-e as it was a little heavier than the featherweight Anser. Have been thinking about replacing my Craz-e with a new IWI B60 as they have heavier weight implants and I like the old blade style.

I spent about 40 mins in AG at the weekend trying out different putters against the Ping. I tried Fisher, TaylorMade, other Ping models and Callaway, until right at the end I spotted a lone Scotty sitting there. I gave it a go and couldn't put it down. I kept swapping with the Ping, 5 balls with each and was really impressed with the Scotty. I was far more accurate with it than the Ping on the inside green there. I need to go back and spend some more time with them, because I still harken for the Ping but the Scotty is whispering sweet nothings in my ear, and she's too expensive a toy to buy lightly.

I was going to buy a Ping, all the way until I tried my first Scotty, and after that the Ping felt cheap, like it was made by Fisher Price. To me, my Scotty(s) is worth the money, but then I putt fairly well. Always have done. Had an Odessy 2 ball for a while, but it was ugly, and it wasn't great either. Have tried numerous Odessey putters since (in the shop), and I can't get them to sit square (may be need lie adjustment for my stance). They are always closed. This would not tempt me into their camp, as I am going to pull every thing.

If you have the money, then get a Scotty. At the very least you will find out how good and repeatable your stroke is.

I have a Newport 2.

I am actually a decent putter for a higher handicapper, and wouldn't be without the Scotty. Tried a few different types before buying, and this was by far the best putter.

Compared it to a Bettinardi, and most of the Odyssey range - the only putter that came close for me was the Rossa Daytona, but preferred the Scotty in the end.

Not to mention the pro's dont get theirs off of a rack in AG or wherever. Theirs are measured and weighted for them for the perfect fit thus giving them a better chance of making a good stroke. When was the last time you saw a pro with 4" of putter grip sticking up from the top of their hands?

Newport 1.5 for me too!

I'm not sure how you miss the sweet spot on a putt!!!!
Bloody hell that would have to be a bad stroke!

Use a bit of masking tape stuck gently on the face of your putter (don't press it on too hard or you'll mark the tape), make a few putts then look at the face of the putter, there should be a patch of darker marks on the tape where it's struck the ball. I'd be suprised if that patch was larger than your little finger nail???

Not always Calchavecia is known for wandering into pro-shops at tournaments he's playing in and buying a new putter to use.
One or two pro's also scour flea-bay believe it or not!
(not for cost reasons of course).

I do like the look of the new Scotty California Putters...... So if anyones looking what to get me for xmas. I'll have the mallet style California with the offset.

;) :p

Love the idea of all putts coming off the centre within small finger range. If you can do that with all your forty footers under pressure in a competition you are a better putter than me.

How the heck do we wrap it for you without you guessing what it is?

I can't justify the extra cost although they are lovely bits of kit. Personally I prefer the TM putters for their feel and have a spider (for when my putting is really off) and a more conventionally shaped Daytona model.

I use to have a two ball blade but to be fair at the time my putting was awful and it was probably me, but I couldn't get any feel with the softer face on anything over about 20 feet. That said I think Cally make better looking putters than TM and some of the new ping design look like year 4 metalwork projects which is sad especially when you can still get a half decent version of the Anser for around £60. I still have an original Anser 2 which I use in the summer if I'm feeling brave.

Nike are releasing some new putters so they may be worth a look. The face is designed to give the ball better roll and stop skidding so I seem to remember from the blurb
