So the team at Odyssey has come up with a new innovation for the club golfer. The flip face putter has a soft and firm insert and comes with a tool that allows the player to adjust the putter and flip the face depending on the green speed. So what do you think a genius new piece of product development or a pointless development?

I like the idea as I use two different putters, one with a firmer insert for the winter, and a softer feel for the summer when our greens can be a nippy. Not keen on the putter shown but presumably it would be available in most of the Odyssey range.

A gimmick I'd say. Designed to convince players that it's the club and not them at fault, perpetuating the myth that we can buy our way to a better golf game.

I would have to have a play with it to say for sure but my 1st reaction is why now? its a good idea if it works. Nice to see something different. We would not be human if we did not try and better things.

A bit of a gimmick, but smart move nonetheless. Previous Odyssey putters have been criticised for being too soft or too firm, and different regions prefer different feels - soft in the US, former in Europe, so they can better satisfy everyone and maintain one production series globally.

Clever idea but pointless as stated by others - couldnt see my self keep on changing depending on the greens.

Wonder how much more it will cost. If the extra cost is small, and the putter maintains it's stability I think it is a great idea. Why not have the choice of two different putter faces ? I am sure a lot of people initially thought adjustable drivers were the work of the devil. :mmm:

Out of curiosity do those that see it is pointless predominantly play their home club? And would this potentially appeal more to the nomadic golfer? Or is it just a brilliant way to feed the tinkering nature of a club golfer? Currently we've got adjustability in woods, changeable faces in wedges, changeable weights in putters and now we can flip the face...

probably be flip the person taking the put next, gimmick from me, too many options in my golf bag would consistantly have me wondering about the setup

Most of the other adjustable clubs you mention Tiger are a bit different IMO:

wedges: change the face only when it's worn out, rather than to make it play differently
drivers: adjusted to suit your general swing and flight shape, rather than tinkering to suit the course from week to week.

Putters... there might be some use in this one, but i'm still not sure. You might want to change the playing characteristics of a putter from winter to summer as speeds changed, but as that tends to be a gradual transition in speed, so when do you switch? I'd think weight would be more useful to change than face feel in those circumstances any way.

I'm just not sure how much you would use adjustable putters.... turn up at a course, try the practice green and adjust from there? Not sure anyone would do that is reality.
