New Kitchen Advice

We thought of an island but dumped it as the circulation required around it ate up too much space…making that space useless - instead going for a peninsula…indeed talking about our kitchen in last couple of weeks we agreed that the peninsula is our favourite feature…we sit at it and use it a lot…it’s only short but itself hugely popular and useful.
My issue with a peninsula is I worry that we’d end up dumping stuff on it (post, kids stuff etc).

Currently in the middle of our kitchen work (and other things). Bare room. No kitchen, took the wall out between that and the dining room...all bare and just got the plastering done. Neither of us like islands, went with a large peninsula. I don't have to worry about stuff on the counter, my wife is a neat freak and almost nothing can be on the counters. We have had induction for 10 years now, so there will be a new one with this kitchen as well as the pyrolytic oven that self cleans. Currently doing dishes in tje downstairs bathroom sink.

Ah two years ago…been there; seen it; done it. And when the rear wall was knocked out in mid-winter my wife disappeared to her mums for a few weeks…

And yes…likewise….my mrs is a new kitchen tidy-freak….she is determined to keep the worktops clutter-free.

Yea, not looking forward to this haha. Our downstairs toilet sink is the size of a thimble, so won't be much in the way of dishes being done. My mum has said we can move in with her and my dad for a few weeks, but I think my wife would rather starve than do that :D

Kitchen design changed twice since last post 🫠

Finally settled on what we want though I think. Have to say Wren have been excellent.

Also, turns out tiling 32sqm is, apparently, going to cost quite a few quid 😅

Still got to figure out what flooring we’re going to do in the rest of the downstairs too 🙃

Can thoroughly recommend Karndean, very hard wearing and easy to clean! 👍

When I said "finally settled on what we want" when it comes to the kitchen, it turns out I meant "we'll change it 2-4 more times until we're happy" as we're still not there

Have to finalise it soon though as build started on Tuesday 😬

Will try and send updates if anyone is arsed.

It's not too late now so get it changed, if you miss something you'll regret it every single day...I do when I have to walk across the utility to put the light on. She told me we needed a light on the nearest door and I insisted it would be fine, can't tell her it annoys me now.

Yea, that’s precisely why we’ve changed it a number of times. Would rather get it right and take longer to decide.

We also can’t decide if we want a range (wife’s always wanted one) or two integrated ovens and separate hob (would likely end up being more expensive as I want those sexy neff ovens where the door disappears). The decision of which slightly changes the potential final layout

Let her have her range, they're usually right about these things.

I'm assuming when you say range, you don't mean an Aga, which are, quite simply, a pain in the butt! You mean an integrated hob and oven, right?
All you need to decide is whether you want the extra worksurface a range will give you, or a damn sexy double oven and induction hob... 😉
And those Neff sliding door ovens are insanely good!

We have a range cooker. Would prefer the other option ..

Are you joking,we’re all sat waiting for the next update 😉

Range cookers are one of the current "thing" items. The problem with them comes when it has to be replaced, and they either dont make that size anymore or the costs have skyrocketed.
Personally I would have 2 built in single ovens and a seperate induction hob above (not a downdraft one either).
The Neff slide and hide ovens are ok....but.....you do loose cavity space because of the space needed for the door and its mechanism, and they are insanely annoying if you are remotely interested in keeping the oven door clean. The amount of them that have fluid streaks on the inner door glasses is a lot, and they aren't the easiest to clean and definately not something a consumer can do.
I would go for a normal drop down door and not slide and hide.

That’s the dilemma we’re having. Plus if we get a range (and yes I mean a Stoves/Rangemaster with induction hob), I get a large coffee cupboard.

It really is 1st world problems 😅

This is useful, thanks! Any specific makes/models you would recommend? I like the idea of not having unslightly knobs

Just a thought, with the rapid advances in air fryers, do you need a double oven?
We have a double air fryer and a double oven. We use the main oven a lot less, plus of course, lower electricity bills.

Bosch, Neff and SIemens would be my targets to look at. They are under the same group so mainly just different options and looks but same components.
Something else to consider, is that we are at the junction point in cosmetic looks where the older stainless steel look is being phased out for the new black/charcoal and textured finish instead. This is not just brand specific but industry wide.

This is good because we absolutely want black/anthricite finish 😂
