Today I have been down to a local course, Thorpe Wood in Peterborough, with my eye on the new Taylormade R9 and booked a session with the head fitter there. I arrived at 12:00, Simon took me into the fitting room, aware of what I was looking for and had a selection of drivers sitting there waiting.

I took a few shots with my 907D1 and he was flabbergasted I was sold a 9.5degree driver with my launch angle and swing speed (Thanks American Golf!!!)

I hit a few with the R9 and we couldn't get the launch angle corrrect, my spin was perfect though. We tried a few different shafts and settings to no avail. We then tried a Cobra S9 1 M speed, Mizuno MX900 (I think), Titleist 909 D2 and still couldn't get it correct, despite what degree heads we used.

Then he picked out a G10, 12 degree, stiff with a low kickpoint. Launch monitor showed me hitting this with a beautiful draw, out the middle and the correct launch.

Happy with that, we then went onto the range to hit a few into the wind and then we went to the other end with the wind. I hit the TM 1st on both occasions and was hitting my slice as usual! Then onto the G10 and WOW is all I have to say! I am hitting a great distance with a nice draw and I am full of confidence. Now, roll on 4.30 when I can get down the course for 9 holes!!

Sorry for the ramble, I am just so pleased with the club and the level of service I received!

A big thanks to Simon Fitton at Thorpe Wood and he will be getting regular visits now!

How much does a fitting like this cost if you don't mind me asking? I'm pretty happy with the way I hit my irons, but I'm not happy with my driving. I know I have potential, but I only seem to be able to unleash it at the range.

I would happily pay for a fitting like this so that a Pro could tell me what would be just right for me. (I've never had one before...I've only ever just picked up secondhand clubs at the local American Golf. I hit my 10.5 degree Stiff G10 better than any other driver I've tried, but I'm sure there could be others which are better still.)

This is like my story, really wanted the R9 but after hitting various drivers the G10 was also best for me, although I have the slight fade version!!!

Noticed a big difference into the wind and when it is hit it stays hit and gives a nice feedback on contact

Have tried the R9 for a few weeks now and am driving superb with it have come down 0.8 in the past 2 rounds so went and got one today ended up with 10.5 regular from a 9.5 stiff with the Tour Burner the difference in spin rates and shape shot was a suprise ,getting a great flight against the low flight i had before, gained a few yards ,but there closer together ,so am off for 9 holes tonight to get used to it before our open tomorrow.

good to hear! thatll get you out on the course more. Thats what happened to me about a month ago - i got a burner Draw - stops my slice its great! :D

I am pleased I decided on the G10 after only testing a Wilson driver against it. It still goes wrong on occassions but overal it is a really superb piece of kit. Am not suprised others have found the same!!
Good luck with yours!

I just shot a gross 73, net 57 today in a betterball competition! Fair to say, being straight and long has made a very noticable difference!

You did it.....on your own..... :)

I'm glad I'm not your partner......
