New driver?

Whats the point in being able to hit 300yards straight if you cant hit greens and 3 putt all the time? Work on your iron play so that when you hit a bad tee shot you are confident enough to be able to find the green from anywhere 150yards and in.

I'm with everyone else. I suspect you're able to get within 60 yards or so of the green, probably even less after your 2nd shot, so hitting on to the green with your 3rd. If you practice that "3rd" shot alongside improving your putting your handicap will tumble much quicker than getting 40 extra yards off the tee and trying to hit a GIR.

If you really wanted to persevere with a driver, I'd seriously consider having it cut down to about 44 - 44.5" and see how you get on with that before spending on a new one.

I'd hazard a guess that the improved accuracy with your 3 wood is as much to do with shaft length as it is to do with having more loft.

This area is where stats can help you get a real perspective on your ability.
The chart shows, approximately, how you should be performing.
Understanding how your expectation compares with reality is important. If you play off, say, 20 it means you're not going to hit lots of fairways and greens, you're not going to make many pars or take 30 putts.
At every level the first priority has to be to get the ball in play. 200+ yards with a 3 wood on the short grass is so much better than 250 in the rough it's like night and day.

Use the Winter to practice the driver. On course, when it's wet, the 3 wood is often a better bet for many but use range time to get better with the driver. The RBZ is a decent stick and it's your swing that's sending the ball off the straight and narrow

A friend took his RBZ to AG to cut down, they refused citing shaft flex points would change and it would become useless.

I guess it depends how much he wanted it cutting down by, and off which end.

I'd be amazed if many handicap golfers could tell the difference in flex and/or swingweight by having an inch taken off the grip end of a driver shaft.

When I bought my driver (from AG), I had them take half an inch off before I'd even paid for it. Nobody (apart from the long drive guys and gals) needs a driver shaft longer than 45", and I'd also say that most people would be better no longer than 44".

Think my 3 wood has read this thread, she behaved impeccably yesterday:D I hit 8 out of 11 fairways on my way to scoring 36 points. Sadly I managed to miss all 6 par 3 greens (3 of them are over 190 yds to be fair), so its off to the pro to find out why time.

I will have a wager its one of two things.

1. you didn't aim properly
2. You aimed properly, but you didn't hit it there.

That will be £30 please.

I had kinda hoped your reply was gonna be, i read all the replies, but decided to spunk £350 on a Sldr or whatever! that would have been better! LOL

Well played hitting 8/11! that's tour status!!

Saint you're talking about a new driver, I've a mate (coughKRAXXcough) who bought the new SLDR because he didn't like the Callaway X-Hot he had bought to replace the perfectly good Titleist 910D3, he now has a R11.

He has played 3 rounds with the SLDR and has decided it's not for him, rather than find why and try and fix it, he's shelled out for a R11.

Later this week there will be a mint condition barely used SLDR going up on Ebay, or if I can persuade him I'll get him to put it up for grabs in the for sale section, not sure what he wants for it yet.

Thats Ok mate, I'm going to just stick with my 3 for now and practice with my RBZ on the range over the winter. Besides if I spend anymore on golf stuff this decade I might not live to regret it!
