Have been having lessons for the last 5 months now and am coming to the point where I need to buy a new driver.

Am hitting my old King Cobra perfectly well but it is naturally set to counter slices. I was astonished when the Pro who teaches me pointed out that I naturally countered the offset in my swing!

However, now I'm having lessons and starting to hit the ball properly it's becoming clear that using it is probably undoing some of the good work we're putting together in lessons and having counter productive effect on the rest of my clubs.

So...

Have decided it's time to get a 'proper' driver and learn to hit it properly. We're going to have an hour next Monday trying different drivers / lofts / shafts etc, with video analysos, to try help find what suits. With all the 100's of ads out there am interested in people's opinions of Drivers they've tried to help compile a list so the Pro can pick up for me.

Although I don't yet have a handicap am told I play to about 15 - 18, so still very much in the 'improving' category, and dont want to be spending a fortune.

Particularly interested in any views on;

Titleist 910
TM Rocketballz
Callaway X Hot

Bit open to others as I'd like to get a good spread of options.

Thanks for reading (and any input!).

You're a notch better than me, but other than ability :)confused:) we are in a similar boat. I have a Ping G20, and get on brilliantly with it. It does occasionally make a mistake, but it seems to be improving. ;)

Titleist 910D2 is great. Loads of adjustability if required. Looks fantastic and sits perfectly square behind the ball none of this open and closed nonsense. It is also fairly easy to hit as well, the D3 model in the 910 is more unforgiving and has a smaller head size. Dont know about the other 2 you mention as I have never hit them.

I have the TM RBZ and I really like it. I really like the weight distribution and the head feels quite light. I also like the fact I can adjust the loft, which as I improve I am sure I will do. I appreciate they are a bit like marmite for some due to their looks, but I'd definitely recommend you have a go with one. I'm a high handicapper so I'm sucked in by all the marketing about how it will improve my game :) but I also have a mate who plays off 5 who feels the same.

There are not many bad Drivers out there but each one is different specs due to lofts and shaft specs. You may well be better going to get fitted for one so you know better what you are looking for in terms of loft and shaft stiffness. This is a job normally a Pro would do for you!

I was in a very similar situation in that I used to have a huge over the top swing so bought a second hand draw bias Driver (please don't flame me people I didn't know any better). Once I started taking lessons I found that my slice turned into a massive pull hook and the draw bias just made this even worse. I recently bought the Callaway X-Hot and for the money it's a brilliant driver. I'm now really confident with the Driver and when I do pull the odd Tee shot its nowhere near as bad as it used to be.

You might find at first that the with a neutral setting on your driver you initially push your shots due to being used to that closed club face. Stick with it and it will come good.

Had the Rbz Stage 2 out the other day and really liked and out performed my current stick by a fair bit ,really like the look of the Cally X Hot and will give it bash tomorrow and see what like. One of my mates tried the Cally 3 wood and gained 10 mph ball speed said it went just as far as his driver and he plays of 3.

I have a G20 going for sale soon. Brilliant bat and by far the most forgiving driver I've ever hit. It only got knocked out the bag by the i20 due it the i20 launching a lot lower.

I have the x hot and I've only hit approx 20 balls with it and decided to get rid but I'm going to give it one more go on fri. My normal shot is a draw but with the x hot the higher the loft the more weight is put in the toe. But this seem to turn my draw into a hook. Would suit a player with a fade as it would straighten the shot .might try a x hot tour next.

If you like your Cobra, I can certainly recommend the AMP (last year's model which will be cheaper than the current AMP Cell model).

Ive the 910 D2 and as most on here heard over last 3/4 months i was inches away from changing due to struggling with it for a year. Had 2 lessons with my pro over the last month and can honestly say its the best driver ive had and now hit it a dream. Plenty of good adjustable settings and due to the 913 being out u cud pick a 910 up at a decent price. Great looking club too.

Irrespective of make and model, IMHO the most important thing is the shaft. I play an R1 which i was fitted for, I think i tried at least 6 shafts before i had one that "worked" for me. If i had just walked into a shop and bought the standard stiff shaft i presume i would need, then i would not be happy. Try as many as you can would be my advice, if you are not brand specific, even better.

Got an X hot last week, reg 10.5 quality club which is easy to hit and very forgiving. There are simple open/closed/neutral settings on the club, just liked the feel of it as soon as I tried it, managed to come down 0.4 as well on saturday by using it.

I'd have a bash with the Nike Covert as well.

I have a 910 and hit the Covert as well as it when I had a loan of one for 9 holes.
The shape looks better to me than the 910 (more compact) and you soon don't notice the bright metallic red!
