I’m moving to Broughton Astley and am interested to join a club in the area. I have played Cosby a couple of times and noticed a lot of green staff going about there business. Enjoyed both rounds and the staff were very welcoming.
Any other clubs I should take a look at before committing?

Got family in Leicestershire and visit them occasionally, having the occasional game. That area is not blessed with golf courses, but within a shortish drive are Hinckley and Kirby Muxloe. Both nice tracks with good facilities.

Kirby Muxloe is full with a waiting list. In fact they are not accepting applications to join the list.

Whetstone, cheap and cheerful, not the best draining and some holes are very adjacent, great food in the clubhouse
Ullesthorpe, friendly club but like most Leicestershire courses not the best draining, they've been promising a driving range for years but it's still not ready.
Lutterworth, I've heard it's quite cliquey and hard to integrate as a new member, not the best draining.
Nuneaton, okay but never inspired me, not the best draining.
Hinckley, I like this one as a course, don't know about membership, not the best draining.
Kilworth Springs, nice course, I'm a member if you fancy a trial round, the best draining in Leicestershire but as such it is always busy, especially in Winter.
Bramcote Water, 9 hole, short, not the best draining.
Kibworth, a bit of a drive, friendly, not the best draining.

As Cosby will be so close it will be hard to find somewhere else to tempt you away. Cosby has everything you need.

I find Hinckley to be a slightly more interesting course than Cosby, but Cosby has a driving range.

Cosby has a huge number of low handicap players - they are obviously happy to be there.

That’s a good summary by Crow above. I am a member of Kibworth which is a 20 odd minute drive away. It’s in great condition in the Summer, but like most other local courses (with the exception of Kilworth) doesn’t drain well in the Winter. Let me know if you want a game at Kibworth, perhaps Crow and Voyager could join us for a four ball (or doublebogey7 as we’re yet to meet). I certainly wouldn’t put you off trying Cosby, which would be your nearest course, but personally I wouldn’t be keen on the next nearest (Whetstone).

So I’ve still not joined anywhere and moved to Brinklow. Anyone a member of rugby golf club? Just wondering how it copes in the winter ect. I’ve played Ansty and that’s not great. Don’t fancy travelling far after work for golf

Only played it once, it was in very good condition but it was a little bonkers, constantly hearing shouts of 4 and having to duck and dive. 18 holes crammed into an area onlyvm suitable for 9.
Have you tried Nuneaton, comfortably the best course in the area.
Edit; Having checked the map you are not far from Coventry Golf, which is better than Nuneaton in my view.

I echo the above. Rugby is well maintained but very claustrophobic. Lots of tees and greens close together and a couple of holes crossing over other holes. I’ve only ever played it when it’s quiet, and I would imagine when busy it could be a little chaotic. Not played there for several years, to be fair.

Coventry Golf Club (Finham) and Coventry Hearsall Golf Club are both good options. And if memory serves you’re a similar distance from Rugby as you are from Atherstone, which is a good track.

That makes sense as I looked at the course layout at Rugby gc online and that looked like greens and tees are close to each other. That puts me off to be honest.

Lutterworth is good in summer but a small river running through the middle means it floods regularly in winter. I also hear that it's hard to integrate as most people only play in their regular little groups, even in comps which aren't drawn, so it's hard to find playing partners as a new member.

Lutterworth and Ullesthorpe are only 15 minutes from Brinklow. I prefer Ullesthorpe of the two courses.

I first played at Rugby in the 1970s. It was a 9-hole course with 4 par-3s.
How they have squeezed 18 holes into the land they acquired is fascinating.
I do not like to decry any golf course that you can play golf on. Some are better than others. Rugby is one of the others.

I like Hearsall. Good course and good club.

Not played Finham (Cov Golf Club). They would want over £2,200 for your first year there, however.
Plenty of others will be around £1,000 cheaper.

Rugby is about 7.5 miles from me. Lutterworth is a reasonable distance, has anyone played there?
I've got a number of mates that are members at Luterworth so get to play it a few times a year. Currently in very good condition, though not my favorite course as its pretty fiddly especially the back nine holes where 3 tee's converge making it a little claustrophobic. As others have said Ullesthorpe is close too, personally not a lover due to the greens being heavily slopped yet unsubtle. I understand competitions are always on a Sunday due to the heavy traffic on a Saturday from the attached Hotel.

Ullesthorpe began as very much a working man's club and the reason competitions are all on Sunday is because many of the members worked on a Saturday.

No, but as a member of Cosby I suppose I would say that. Please free to DM me if you have any questions about the club or fancy a game sometime.
Visiting Cosby for the first time this summer. Intending to play your open on bank holiday Monday. Here's the most important question, does the clubhouse serve a full English?

Haha

It says they do on their website, but as its a bank holiday, I would phone the week before to verify.

Tricky opening hole even though it is a short par-4.
Similarly the 17th and 18th - short par-4s but tricky.
