New Club ?

Mono, i assume you live in or near Bootle GC right? If you want a real test of golf try West Lancs which is less tha 10 miles away and you'd be able to get a bus from bootle to West Lancs no probs.

Im a member at bootle currently but am defo joining mossock hall and dont know weather to renew bootle aswell or go to another different one.

[/QUOTE]Came down dunnings bridge road the other day, golf ball all over the road.i presume coming off the course by some d**kheads on the course,Bootle is a dogtrack, played there once before and vowed never to return,if you are off 17 you should murder it,flat as a pancake,no sand in the bunkers, and as for burnt out cars, yeah bit of a challenge

Stuart, if he can't get round bootle to handicap, what fu**** hope has he got, going around West Lancs.I caddied for my best mate.plays off 2, Comp for 5 or below he finished late 70's and the wind was light.Mono couldnt cope with the fast greens.mate :(

Andy not sure what I'd be apologising for. I've not knocked him, just queried the 2 handicaps which I find ludicrous and the reasons for wanting to join elsewehre. I think its interesting that he says he current course isn't challenging and wonder what sort of challenge he's looking for. I think I've been pretty open in my posts. OK I worngly assumed he was off 10 when it was a quote from someomne else but I did mock myself accordingly

I'm sure Mono will be capable of a sub 70 round there pal :D ;).

It sounds like moneys no object to Mono so instead of joining a decent track at mossock wouldn't he be best joining 1 GREAT track in West Lancs?

Homer, I think the kid doesnt know his arse from his elbow, the lower handicap was probably a winter society handicap (we have a winter society where you get chopped if you win or come placed each week) so for all intents and purposes means jack when playing at any other course or when the course comes back to wunner conditions.
What I dont understand is how he asks for advice at 18.45 on whether he should move and 30 mins later 19.15 he is joining TWO clubs.
Noone finds golf easy, challenging and boring are two different things entirely.

Mono is going to resign and join two more clubs. I think I know why; it's just a ruse to get two more different handicaps.

:D :D :D ;)

Seriously now, fair play to Mono for wanting to play at a better track than what he's at now, i wouldn't rush into a decision though

Part of me agrees with Tommo21's defence of Mono, as he gets a lot of stick in reply to his posturing exuberance of youth.
But there's a limit to some of the more outrageous claims he makes that lead to questioning incredulity.

I'm sorry Mono but for goodness sake stop doing this to yourself! Repeating previous poster's replies as your own, and making "Walter Mitty" golf related claims, do nothing to gain the respect, or lack thereof, that you referred to earlier.

All the same, I hope your arm's on the mend.

Sticking up for him slightly but not much ,some clubs in Scotland give you a winter handicap of half handicap or two thirds as the course is generally shorter but its the middle of June for christ sakes wee man you should only have your official handicap in play now.
As for looking for a new club stay were you are and improve your handicap, you said your looking for a bigger challenge my advice is get your handicap to low single figures then look for a new challenge not the 17 your playing of now mate.

Tommo,

Its fair to say I've not been Mono's biggest fan at times, but I hoped that I'd asked questions in a more open way. The two handicap figures frankly left me bemused as I don't know anywhere (less societies which operate different handicaps from official club ones) where a club has an official winter and summer figure. Surely that is what CSS is for?

I've said that I can understand that playing the same course can leave you feeling unexcitedand unisnspired but tempered taht by suggesting getting lower before looking for a longer and harder challenge.

I am not a fan of his cut and paste replies and we all know some of the claims on here have be "bigged up" but in general terms I'm trying to live and let live.

Does anyone on here have two handicaps apart from Mono?
Someone I occasionally play with at my club seems to have a different handicap at a different club, (is that common? I've no idea!), but not two handicaps at the same club.

Mono, when you say you want a short course, how short are you talking here? Where I play it's really short...a nine-hole course that's about 1900 yards, CSS 57 at the moment. Four par 4s the first time round, but the one that's only 230 yards(!) becomes a 200-yard par 3 the next time round. Fantastic and fun little course, but hardly challenging, and I think that very quickly a big hitter like you is going to tire of it. (Or do you just want a short course because you think it'll be easier and you'll get your handicap down nice and quick? That kind of what I'm hoping is going to happen with me, but I've not been cut yet! Stupid game! ;) )

Mossock Hall is a good course my work friend is a member the only probelm with it is you have to driver over 3 fairways to get to the car park but i suppose you know that

I would wait a little while and join the Northwest National being built if you want challenge,it probally closer its about 500 yards from the east lancs just after Knowsley

No you can't have 2 handicaps at 2 clubs. If you are a member of 2 clubs, you have to decide which club will hold your handicap. All qualifiying cards from the second club and other courses if played, have to be sent to the holding club for handicap adjustment.

Mono

If you want to change clubs fine, but my advice to you is look for a club that has a good junior section that is well organised, by this i mean they will look after the interests of all the juniors not just the low guys where you will get the oppotunity to play in there teams and meet other juniors. This way you will have the benefit of being coached you could even get county coaching which is free if you are showing progress, it will also give you a realistic messure of how good you are.

You will also be playing with some players much lower than your self which will bring your game on no end. dont worry how long or short the course is at your age you need the support of a good junior section and organiser.

I have been a junior organiser for some years now and have seen hundreds of them pass through the ranks most dont become pro's although lots of them want to.

The majority take up other occupations but become competent golfers who enjoy there club golf and the many friends they make.

Good luck
