OK I didn't mean that they sacked him fhe same year. When it was clear that he wasn't going to win it (improve on 2nd) then enough was enough. Harsh I think when the club haven't won the league in 25 years. It may take more than 3 years to achieve that with any manager unless there is massive investment and even then there are no guarantees.

I think he was treated ok. He was forgiven the year after 2nd (no Suarez), but he didn't improve them the next season so they cut their loses. Will Klopp do any better? League form suggests Liverpool are the same as always. But re Rodgers. Think he was found out, but at least now he can add a few trophies to the ego.

Not convinced Rodgers has what it takes at the top level and this will be an interesting appointment. Wonder how he'll improve the squad over the summer and if he can take Celtic forward in the CL. Personally I'm not sure he will and that an SPL is a given next season. He may well prove me wrong of course

No one could take Celtic forward in the CL.
They can't attract the players & Scotland don't produce the players,it's that simple.

They need to find a way out of the group stages. I think it's a given they'll get there most (if not every) season but they need to kick on. I don't see how they can do that given the level of competition in the SPL although from a (very) outsider it did seem a more bunched affair this season and Rangers can only help that

The level has dropped. Celtic now struggle to qualify for the group stages and that is Rodgers' challenge. Getting out of the group stages is the stuff of dreams at the moment.
 
I see he's on a 1 year rolling contract, not sure if that's a good move or not for Celtic.

From both sides, is Rogers committed to the Club or is it merely a job while he waits for a better offer or, were is the long term plan for the Club to build over a few years if they haven't got a manager secured for a few years.
Can also see the other side that if it doesn't work out you can get rid after 1 year, would be interesting to know if it was him or the club that put this deal forward.

Almost certainly the club as O'Neill, Lennon and Deila were all on 12 month rolling contracts, seems to be the way Celtic have been doing manager contracts for some time now.

Every manager since O'Neill has had a 1 year rolling contract I believe.

Paul, I don't think anyone at Celtic is naive enough to think Rodgers will be there for 10 years or more, chances are he'll be gone after 4 years of his own accord regardless of how well he does (secure 9 in a row possibly) or he gets sacked for failure. How many clubs now actually plan to have the same manager for 5 years or more?

Maybe a reflection of the ridiculous amounts of money in fooball, even in Scotland - not many people would take a job on a 1 yr contract basis as its so insecure and you'd never get a mortgage etc but when you're paid £2 million or whatever a year that Celtic will be paying Rodgers, its a moot point.

If you're manager of Brechin City or Acrrington Stanley I'm sure 1 year contracts wouldn't be de rigeur.
Crazy really but thats market forces/capitalism for you:p

Didn't realise mate, but if you're negotiating with a player to join on a 2/3/4/5 yr contract, they maybe sceptical if you yourself are not guaranteed to be their as well.

Financial sense yes, but possibly also uncertainty amongst the fans and club.
 
What is the job expectancy as a manager? Longer at Celtic to be fair but elsewhere it is between 14-18 months. Giving 3yr contracts to managers when you going to be paying out half of that for nothing does not make sense. 1yr is probably too short but 2yr rolling seems a good idea to me.

To be fair, we know contracts mean very little in terms of holding a player or a manager so once fans get their head around the change it is not really any different to how it is now. Does anyone really expect their manager still to be in charge in 3-4 years time?
