Hi, im taking up golf. And i was just wondering what clubs i should have in my bag?

In my bag at the minute i have irons 3-9. SW and PW. And a driver.

What else should i be looking at buying?

Cheers.

Drop the driver and get yourself a 3 wood as it will get you into less trouble.

Agreed, Add a 3w and either a 5w or hybrid 19* or 22* and your set. the 5w/hybrid will be easier to hit on long par 3's and are a good safety club when things are not clicking off the tee, and a 3w should be ample this time of year giving the amount of roll.

Plenty of range work before you get out and play and when you do consider just taking a half set with you (i.e the odd numbers), next time youre on the range bash a good few out with your 7 iron (for example, might be an 8, whatever youre more comfortable with) if you then hit that 7 iron 10 times in a round you're probably going to start feeling more confident than if you hit 3 8 irons, 4 7s and 3 9s. Get a good feeling for fewer clubs, rather than reaching into the bag for a different one every time, at this stage youre distance control wont be in line with the 10 or so yards between the clubs. Most of all, its a hard game, so dont beat yourself up if you find it hard, we all struggle with it especially starting off, but if you put the time in on the range (I know its not as fun), then the course becomes much more fun in the end.

If you are just starting out, then a couple of lessons will do you the world of good.

Ok it might cost you £20-£30 a lesson, but thats better than 4-6 range sessions where you are zooming the balls all over the place aimlessly and all the time you are engraining bad habits.

Re the clubs id go 5 wood, 23 degree Hybrid, 5- pw, sw, Putter
Leaving you to add Driver, 3 wood and a wedge or 2 as you get better.

Good Luck

How would i go about getting lessons? Just go into the local course and ask the guy behind the counter?
