Can people please post in this thread regarding a national event. There has been plenty of talk but we really need someone to take the bull by the horns.

I've had a couple of pm's from guys and it looks like there will be enough interest to run the event again this year.

I am happy to organise (either on my own or with others) the final. Several people have indicated they are happy to organise the regional events.

So....... please post which region you are happy to arrange and the courses you have in mind. I'm going to stick my neck on the line and suggest we have the regionals played by end of March and I'll look to get somewhere booked for the final in April. Once we have that we can start seperate threads in the arrange a game section for each regional as was done last year.

Thanks everyone for your support on this......let's make it happen. Time for a new C.O.C.K. :D

why does it need to be played so early in the year when conditions aren't at their best? Why not have quals until end of May then the final later in the summer for eg?

as offered before happy to try and run a qualifier if needed, am based in MK but will see if ScousePhil gets us a decent deal at Woburn before going any further on trying to find a venue! Theres plenty of us round this area that we can find somewhere, what region you will call is a bit harder as we usually are on the border where 3 or 4 regions meet!

I swear this conversation has been had so many times both this and last year! The issue was people have busy summers, and it's cheaper over winter. And also it was meant to not tread on the H4H days toes.

yep agree about slightly later.

We have a meet semi arranged for April. my club will still be on a winter course until 2nd week of April.

Whats wrong with doing it when the courses are in better condition?

I would agree with letting regionals go later than march can see no harm in april or may obviously depending on finals date (baclk end of may last year). But to truly decide a finals date and venue needs finalising IMO.

H$H day wasn't until end of September so its well away from that in may.

yep and no one has given a valid reason yet imho

H4H is september - hardly stepping on its toes with a 1 day final anyway, as for busy summers, well if youre too busy to find one day then so be it surely, much rather play in better conditions a month or two later personally, maybe thats just me though, apologies for bringing it up again

As stated, most people kick off their season from late March onwards and it becomes difficult to fit things in. Also, somewhere like Hillside for the final will be about £60ish winter rates and well in excess of £100 once they go onto summer rates. I think that would put a lot of people off.

If it's later then I like many others I suspect won't be able to commit until I see my clubs comp dates. I wouldn't want to miss a championship qualifier or major comp for what effectively is a society outing.

that's where the boss man pulled a rabbit out of the hat and got us Hillside at end of may on winter rates last year. Any news on such an offer this time around?

Nope sorry...I need to chase up the boss for a reply to my email. Watch this space!

*edit...chaser email just sent

I would also prefer the qualifiers later - up to end of April would be good

Dates seemed to work ok last year, so stick with something similar. If the final is in May, qualifiers could go into April though. Good deals to be had on winter rates, though my clubs society rate only goes from £45 in March to £58 in April onwards.

OK....I'm happy to look at a final date sometime in May so anyone volunteering to organise the regionals can look at suitable dates prior to that. Just bear in mind that those that qualify will need to arrange time off work, hotels etc etc so may need a decent gap between regionals and the final.

I'll say no right now to that idea

Last year each event had around 20 people so around 100 people entered

Get GM to give prizes ?!

I don't know why anyone would want to run this event with all the crap that gets thrown around.
However I nominate you Gordon it sounds like you could do it.
Also you have been in touch with Mike.
I will run the Southwest if needs be,if the concepts right.
I will look at Burnham again and maybe somewhere like Enmore.
Or someone else can offer I will go with the flow.

From my own viewpoint, depending on whether we have a SE or London event (and a decision made on whether you can enter more than one) I'm happy to play as and when arranged. Have no qualms about earlier or later

I thought format & timeframe was pretty good last year tbh. Only a few minor tweaks needed imo.

Im happy to do the North west meet as per last year. Wont be going to that Frodsham goat track again though, slicers paradise  :D
