Name dropping time

Debbie Hanna is resident pro at our place and a former Ladies Tour player. I think she was first lady on tour from NI.
Oh and Rory used to practice on the range at our place for years. His cousin and Uncle are still there a few days a week.

Just looked back at the Royal Ascot history. Didn't know that the Boys Amateur Championship was first played on Ascot Heath (the original course) and the club presented the first trophy to the R&A. First played in 1921 Sir Henry Cotton (3 time Open Champion) played with his younger brother

I bumped into Prince Andrew on the course the other day as he pushed through on the first tee with the Captain, he was wearing a jaunty red fur cap. I welcomed him to the club and commented on the rather unusual cap.

He explained it was mothers idea. He explained that when he told her he would be playing golf at Worcester tomorow she said "Where the Fox Hat"

A lot of the Toon players play at my track through the year. The late Gary Speed was a regular during hi spell there and was always a real Gent according to those who spoke with him.....and Shearer was a tight as 2 coats of paint.

My father played with Seve back in 1984 at the Irish Open Pro-Am, he won the place in the club and got a Ping Anser putter, then for winning the County he got to play with a Pro, at the time it was my dad and Seve against Nick Faldo and the amateur winner from another county.

My junior team at Stratford on Avon GC featured errrr, me and Carl Petterson, three-time winner on the PGA Tour. He played off about 3 when he was 14. Funny thing was, he was an iffy putter even at that age, and now wields a belly putter, and also wields quite a belly. Nice lad though.

I played a singles match at Kenilworth against Jamie Elson who also plays on the European Tour. I beat him, mainly because he was about 12 years old at the time... but that detail usually gets left out in the telling :D

I also played with Steve Webster in a Warwickshire schools thing... he ripped me to pieces.

Glenn Hoddle, think he's still a member
Russ Abbott was down there the other day
Michael Dawson (Spurs) he used to have lessons, not sure if he was a member though
Simon Holmes is often on the range giving lesson, thinned one a couple of inches from his right ear once LOL
Think most of the old Chelsea team used to play at the course when Hoddle was in charge, Zola etc

LPGA player Kirsty Taylor is a member at Weybrook Park.

Retief Goosen was on hand to open the course (can't remember the other guys but there was about 3 tour staff there to open the course)....well before my time ;)

William Whitelaw was a member and club president for a number of years till his death and we even have a lounge named after him. It goes against my socialist principals every time I go in there :):)

Our club only opened in 1995, so at the moment it would be my son - Steve Surry. He played in The Open at Turnberry in 2009, and has also played Challenge Tour and some European Tour events over the last couple of years. Not much of a name to drop though! :p

Chris Wood and David Howell have recently come along to use the new short game practice area, but I don't think that we can actually claim association with them on the strength of that.

Cumberwell Park then! nice course!!!
