Name dropping time

Crikey Brendy - that's quite a roll of honour you've got there!

Bluewolf - yes, he's in SA. Was practising in Jo'berg last week, and has moved on for Sunshine Tour Q School on Tuesday. No wi-fi access at the new place though, so all quiet on the Twitter front at the moment. Cheers for the good wishes!

My previous club (Aquarius Golf Club) had Sir Henry Cotton and his brother Leslie as junior members before they went pro.

My course not so much...

But I've played a lot of golf with John Moncur (his brother is one of our pros), have played a fair bit with Poulter in his younger days, Ollie Fisher, Simon Khan and a couple of other Challenge tour level guys as well. I know a raft of the europro guys as well. But hardly the same sort of thing.

Well if we're throwing friends into the mix. I played golf with Alastair Forsyth when I was a junior, 2 time European Tour winner who is about to lose his card this year!

Only as there are no 'famous' people at my club these days. Well... expect me... but a brief appearance on crimewatch probably doesn't count.

Max Faulkner claimed he was attached to Blackmoor when he won the Open in 1951.( He was also born in Bexhill, and supposedly went to school with Smiffy.) Bobby Locke used to play the course when in England, and presented a cup to be shared between Blackmoor, Hankley Common and Farnham.

When I was at Reading Golf club, Michael King who played in the Ryder Cup in 1979 was a member.

John Aldridge and Jason Mcateer (ex Liverpool ans Eire players), despite coming from Liverpool and Birkenhead respectively.

I believe they once touched Irish wolfhounds though, if that counts.

Alistair Forsyth reopened my course after it was redesigned following the m77 extension.

And my dad's uncle was best mates ( in a drinking sort of way  ) with Bob Torrance. In fact I had a couple of free lessons from him when I was a kid. Not that they did much good.

My dad was a pretty decent player in his day and he always said the best bit of golfing advice he ever had was from his uncle..." don't play Sam for money".

Sandy Lyle played at our place in conjunction with Ballentine Whisky. Was well before my time but there are plenty of pictures of the day in the clubhouse.

Andrew Murray ex-european tour player (I think it was the British Masters he won) and current 5 live presenter lives in the area and plays a lot of golf at Lymm. His lads are members too and his eldest Tom is making his waynicely on the local tours. Nice fella, always helpful and stops for a chat.

Sandy Lyle and Dean Robertson are hon. members at my club. They played here against against 2 Korean pros (also hon. members but I cant remember their names) also in a Ballantines Whisky promotional event.

David Horsey gave my son a 6&4 battering in a regional knockout at my old club a few years back. After that, like Mary, its my son who's just starting to make his way in the game. He played with Graeme McDowell at the London Club in June - I got a last minute offer to caddy but was in Portugal when the call came through.

Eeew Hobbit - you picked the wrong time to be out of the country! :( Best of luck to your son - are we allowed to know his name, so we can keep any eye out for him?

A non-golfing name at our place is the actress, Jane Seymour - she used to practice there before she played in that All Stars golf comp which Ant 'n' Dec hosted. She's sold her country manor now though, so not likely to make any return visits.

Chris Doak regularly plays at Gourock Golf Club when not playing on Challenge Tour or at Q School for his Tour Card.

Gary Harkins, Professional Footballer playing for Kilmarnock FC in Scottish Premier League is also a member.
